Hello!

So i am going off my Suboxone habit once again.
This time i am going to try some medications to get off, ive almost always gone CT in the past from opioids like heroin, methadone without any additional medication. (Almost always)

This time i want to try the beta blocker Propranolol.

My daily habit is about 4-6mg/Sub daily. Been using it only for about 6months this time.

But i do not know in what dosages i should use Propranolol?
I can get 40 & 160mg tabs so i don't know how many i should get before i start.

Other medications im going to use when tapered down the bupe is tramadol for a short period of time.
Then i have some bensodiazepines but im only gonna use Xanax and Valium if it gets that hard.
Then i have Carisoprodol (Soma) to take.

So what dosage of Propranolol should i take?
And would it be very dangerous to take it together with low doses of xanax and/or valium and/or Soma?

I have gone through many WD's from opioids like heroin, methadone, oxycodone, Buprenorphine in the past so i know the usual drill its just the questions with the beta blocker.

Thanks in advance!

(If i have placed this thread at the wrong place i appologize)

I don't think it would be safe for anyone of us here, even our health professionals, such as myself to
advise you on the dosage of Propranolol. 160mgs tabs I believe are the extended release tabs and the 40 mg tabs are not, but from what I remember they have a duration of about 12 hours.
I am guessing this is something you are not getting from a doctor and I would not feel comfortable
in advising you how much to take or how often.
I wish I could be more help with this for you as I know from my own personal experience how hard it can be to withdrawal, but I just don't feel comfortable giving this kind of information.
Propranolol is a cardiovascular drug and if not taken correctly could cause a decrease in blood pressure, decrease in heart rate and even heart failure.
I know I may be being a bit over-cautious here, but as a nurse, I don't feel comfortable giving that kind of medical advice with medication such as Propranolol.

Of course if you should choose to use the medication otherwise, I would advise to start with the lowest dose possible and if you experience any problems, to seek medical attention right away. And as with many medications often stopping suddenly after taking them for a long period can cause serious problems.

I am sorry as I said that I cannot be more help. I know that this is a difficult time when someone is faced with withdrawals or looking to detox.

Have you thought of tapering your dose of Suboxone instead and seeing if that works? I know you mentioned you have done an abrupt stopping of other opiates, but did not mention if you had tried tapering down your dose of Suboxone.

If I can be of any more help, please let me know!

HI

Thank you very much for your reply!
Yes i have tapered before, and will do that this time too. The plan is to go down to 0.5-1mg and then jump of and go on a lowdose Tramadoldose for a few days and then start with the other medications as needed depending on my WD state.

I understand your view of this, that you can't submit any dosage advices.
I'll take it easy, low dose. Have a friend with me that can check my status and if anything would go wrong - hospital.

Im in a hurry so I will write some more later.

Hiya unbalanced. I'm Candy's partner in crime here:)
I'm wondering why propranolol? Have you read information about or spoken with someone who has used beta blockade to help with withdrawal symptoms before?
I have used clonidine in the past, but have never heard of or seen inderal (propranolol) used this way.
So I'm curious. And I concur with Candy, it would be practicing medicine w/o a license for us to state take X mgs of a drug to help you.
Good luck with your taper and please keep us posted.

Hi Unbalanced,

I am Candy and Poppylvr's other partner in crime. I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician, have been for 10+ years. I agree with both Candy and Poppylvr about dosing with Inderal (propanolol). Without knowing you medical history, your age, size, weight, family history, blood pressure and heartrate it would be irresponsible of us to tell you what dose would be safe. There are many mdeical conditions which make beta-blockers like Inderal contraindicated. We don't know if you suffer from any of these conditions, one example would be Asthma.

If you are going to take the Inderal, you should always start low. You can always take more but can't take it away once you have taken too much. I would suggest seeing a doctor to help you thru the detox but if you insist on doing without then please have a friend that can be with you or check in on you. I would Google some articles about using beta-blockers, specifically Inderal, for opiate withdrawal. You should be able to find some published stiudies or research.

Please be careful

Thanks for your posts!

I do not have asthma or any other medical condiction EXCEPT for hepatitus C.
Maybe my grandfather has high blood pressure but thats it.

I can not get my hands on Clonidine, i know its used in opioid treatment. But i am gonna detox myself.
Propranolol is the only beta blocker i can get my hands on.

Are they that different in action?

I know many people get it prescribed for nervousness in crouds/public speeches and such.
And since during withdrawal from opioids your heart races and blood pressure rises wouldn't a beta blocker like Propranolol be of help?

I would guess that i shouldn't take any other medications during Propranolol ?
Like small doses of bensodiazepines like alprazolam/diazepam/temazepam and tramadol?

And a second question, would Magnesium (Magnesiumcitrat + Magnesiumlaktat) =swedish names of the ingredients in the magnesium recip medicine. OTC.
Would that help with any WD symptom?
