View Full Version : Summer Festivals
Except for last summer, my husband and I always drove down to PA for the Rolling Rock Town Fair. We did this for four years. Now they've made it into a more local, small thing, we are looking for a new pilgrimage. Any suggestions???

Thank you, yes I read the post. There has to be more than that going on. That is a three day festival, I am looking for a 1 dayer.

I know that if you come down to Newport Beach during the 4th of July that you will definitely have some crazy fun. As long as you make it thru the day without acquiring the matching "silver braclets" that the men in blue love giving out. If they let you keep those after they release you I would have quite a collection.:)

Actually, the "big gig" as they call Summerfest (it's in Milwaukee) is 11 days long. Usually too much to take it all in, unless you don't have a job and unlimited wealth.

^^ Prlly not a bad thing for the vendors. Cha-Ching. I want to check it out bad now that they added string cheese, bob weir and keller williams. Trouble is my wife is due July 19th, so I would prlly come back to the locks changed if I tried to check out these shows.

^ Yeah, leaving that close to the due date probably ain't a good idea if you at all value your relationship...
I guess I've been too busy to notice they added Bauhaus to the NIN date. I'm sure all reserve seating is sold out (it's only the 'mainstage' of Summerfest that hey sell advanced tix for), but I have many associates, to quote Kramer, and I'm sure I'll be attending this one.
There is also the 'Unholy Alliance' tour on 7/7 with Slayer and Children of Bodom (love 'em both), plus my wife wants to go see her favorite artist Butch Walker at the Metro in Chicago sometime in August, I think. Butch Walker is the guy from Marvelous 3, and she dragged me to see him last year and he put on a great show. Talented singer songwriter.

In the Uk one of the biggest summer festivals is at a place called Glastonbury (not surprisingly its called Glastonbury festival) I haven't been for a few years now, mainly because its just so expensive 'the sort of free love' feel of such festivals is long gone. Its now just a huge commercial money making venture. When the kids were small (and I still had that hippy dippy outlook on life) I imagined taking them to the festival when they were just that bit older. But the reality is that for half the cost of going to Glastonbury festival we can have a two week family holiday by the sea, for us there's just no contest, much as i love the atmosphere of a festival, I can no longer justify the expense (shit I'm beginning to sound like my mother!!!!!!!)
Bring back the free festivals of old thats what I say!

There are plenty of options. There are the three day camping fests and there are events like Summerfest in Milwaukee.
zombiewoof - We have some similar musical tastes. I'll be at that milwaukee cheese show for sure.

I missed this thread...Man Rent you should head to Columbus OH for COMFEST. Its fucking awesome.
Right in the middle of the city. Goodale Park. They have three stages, beer, food all kinds of shit. Plus its all free and its legal for women to go topless in Columbus city limits so...theres that too. June 23,24 and 25th. It does close down each night but you can find a place to stay or you could try and sleep in the park but the din from the tweakers may make it hard to find. http://www.comfest.com/
I remember Common was there last year. Ill be there I know that much.
The cops are pretty non-existent even though there is a lot of drug use in plain site. Very mixed crowd but everyone gets along great.
The mushrooms are near the pond in the young mans bookbag...hehehe

Your from Mi. huh? They have Hash Bash in Ann Arbor sometime in April (I know, too little too late). Ann Arbor is actually pretty cool when it comes to soft drug laws, anything under a half oz. of pot (I believe that's the cut off) isn't even a misdemenor (sp.) if caught they will just confinscate your illicits and fine you like $50... wont even go on your record. I think this is due to it being a college town. The last Hash Bash I attended there were people walking around smoking joints right in front of cops, like not being clandestine at all, and they just looked the other way... which is a good thing because the streets are littered with pigs "watching for trouble from those beatnicks". I don't know if your into electronic music or the rave scene but there is always something going on in Cleaveland OH in the weekends, if you don't mind the drive.

I live a couple hours from nyc, philly, baltimore, etc. nyc is my favorite place to go.
I missed if Leftover Crack played philly or nyc on their new tour. I think the closest show they're doing now is in ohio, after the US dates they're going to europe. last loc show I went to was when I was trying to help them smuggle their merch across the canadian border, that didn't turn out too good lol. who is drumming for them now? their last drummer OD'd on heroin and alcohol while they were touring through Texas.
July 23 is the tompkins show, lots of good nyhc bands from the early 80s are supposed to play.

yeah I know! I hope Citizen Crack does a little number :). JP was drumming when they came here in April, and R.I.P. Brandon. I saw them in Atlanta only DAYS before his death. :(
Right now their tour schedule is for a bunch of small ass towns like Omaha and Lexington for some reason.

The drive is the whole point of the post. We'd drive 5 hrs to PA for the Rolling Rock show. It's pretty cool seeing shows in a different states. They are DEFINATELY different than Detroit. You guy's gave me A LOT of GREAT IDEAS!! Thanks and keep them coming!!!!!

Been to Hash Bash many a time. It's been a few years now, but a buddy said that they are getting stricter, and it's not what it use to be. But that is the way everything is. I am glad I got to do what I did, because you aren't allowed too anymore!!

Oh your in detroit huh? Thats only what three hours from Columbus maybe three and a half?
I never went to the Rolling Rock Town Fair How is it? Is that in Latrobe where they brew it or no?
Plus its all free and its legal for women to go topless in Columbus city limits so...theres that too.
I see that your a female now and that breasts flopping in the wind may not exactly be your cup o' tea. If you go to the link I posted that will show you who is playing there...one of them is my old band.
Yep, Latrobe were they brew the beer. The first year was awesome. Chili Peppers & STP (I am a chick & aloud to like them goddamit!!) Beer was REAL cheap $1 all; was good. Then it got more commercial each year after, and turned out to be like any other show. I guess I am just looking for something new. I see about 15 concerts a year, and going away to see one is like killing two birds with one stone, i.e. vacation.
