View Full Version : Suboxin replacing Oxycontin

Okay, I'm only asking this because it's new and I really don't know anyone on it, but...
Does anyone have any clue how well Suboxin works? I know it's another opiate blocker, supposedly better than methodone (although, just about anything's better than methodone).
If anyone is on it, or knows if it actually works better, let me know. Thanks.

***sigh*** Here we go again......
It's spelled Suboxone, and yes, there are many people on this forum who use Suboxone (or Subutex, Temgesic, or Buprenorphine which is the drug's actual name), myself included.
And hey, if ya look around the forums for all of 2 seconds you'll see that there is an entire forum dedicated to it. Sheesh....

Oh, yeah, I'm the jackass.
If you'd spend just a freakin' moment or two and actually look around the board in which you just posted your inane, frequently-asked-by-noobs-such-as-yourself questions you'd find all the answers you're looking for in the amount of time it took you to post it to begin with.
And BTW, we're all elitists around here, noob, and by what measure do you declare me an addict? I hardly think you are in any position to make that call.

Oh, just so I'm not being a complete and utter jackass without even helping a bit:

Let's see not to be a "jackass" nor was ZK coming across that in anyway.I'll answer your question in one easy way as if you look under the forum dedicated to tghe subject "suboxone" you'll find the answer to a million and one questions you may want to know about the suboxone.First off I've been on the program over a year?Has it helped me?Well I'll tell you this much I just stepped out of my favorite room in the house the "bathroom"to go to my second favorite place in the house which is the "living -room couch" beacuase I just injected 120 milligrams of morphine while my 400 suboxones sit upstairs collecting dust.Does suboxone compare with oxycontin .The two are a world apart, now some people may find my ass totally wrong but one will get you high(Isn't that what we all want?") and one will get you clean or as clean as a drug addict will be at any given time.Does Suboxone work for me personally?NO Am I ready to quit yet?Hell no!, but when I run outta money and i'm sure thats coming quick I'm sure the suboxones will become my best friend but till then I think I'll keep doing my IV shots of 200 milligrams a day ,And please don't come on here calling people "Jackass".Maybe the same questions are getting repetative and like ZK says it would have took you less time to search "suboxone" and push the go button then type out your thread.I'm not that "old' here either but i did search things and still do b-4 I ask a question. There's just so much info already on here it should be all combined into an Opiophile Book.Great Idea.I think I'll start one right now.It will have an index special for "newbies " who don't wanna ask a question we've been asked 1000 times or more. Now I suppose I'm a jackass.Wait cuz I'm flying so high right now that makes me a unicorn ora pegasus.

I agree, sorry i am also new however i did spend a good four days reading every thread that appealed to me ( about 22 hours in total) before i ever posted a question. i dont mean to bash on you but they are right and one thing i have learned from this site is if you are a sensitive person that is going to get upset when some says something that you dont like this is not the place for you. many people on this site at one time or another are dope sick and you are not the nicest person when you are dope sick.

Not a good way to introduce yourself, newbie. This forum can be hard on n00bs. try to grin and bear it, take it for what it is, and you'll find yourself an accepted part of a really great forum. But our community's particular style is a bit hard on the fresh meat, so be warned.....:D

Also true.
Indeed, some people become assholes on opiates, or are drawn to them because they help with the person's asshole-ness problem that existed in the first place for example. But we're not all assholes....

You'll be all good, V-head, if you just keep doing what you're doing. I think any message board needs to be approached with simple common sense when you're new. Just watch some threads that interest you for a few days. You'll start to see patterns in how and who posts, who gets flamed, etc... I lurked around for a while to get a feel for this board before my first post, which wasn't that long ago, btw.
I also know what you mean about us opiophiles and our moods, but when I am in WD I sometimes find that this site helps me; I guess just knowing that others are out there that can empathize and offer advice can be a good thing. Other times it just makes me crave like a motherfucker.
As for myself and how I reacted to this Hollow person, well, maybe I was in a bad mood, I dunno (I've been moving for what seems like a fucking eternity but was in all actuality about eight days of continuous schlepping in 90 degree and humid weather), but I retract nothing of my response. The person came on acting like a 'tard, and should be treated accordingly. So there. ;)

Suboxone (and subutex) ... same thing, except suboxone has an antagonist built in to prevent shooting it up, and subutex does not. Anyway, they both contain buprenorphine. This is used to wean people off other full agonist opiates. TO take suboxone, you must first wait 8 to 12 hours, minimum, typically. (or essentially, you must wait until you are in at least moderate withdrawl to take it, or else you will go into severe, full blown withdrawl). ADVICE, be sure to be in withdrawl before you take this, or you will regret it! Anyways, the suboxone goes into your system (sublingual tablets, usually), and then binds competetively for the opiate receptor sites. Any other opiates in your system will be ripped off the sites by the subutex, and elmininated. (hence, severe withdrawl for chronic opiate users who do not follow the rules of having to be in withdrawl first). THen, the subutex PARTIALLY fill those receptor sites in (it is a partial opiate agonist), which prevents withdrawls. It has a very long half life, and is much stronger binder to those sites than other opiates, so do not waste time, effort, or money in trying other full opiate agonists at the same time, or even same day, as they will have NO EFFECTS. If you really wanted to go back to regular full agonist opiate use, you must stop the suboxone/subutex for 2 to 3 days, (until again having moderate withdrawl symptoms from having stopped the suboxone/subutex for a while), and then take the full opiate agonists to have any effect.
Hope this answers your question.

if you're trying to get off of oxycontin so you don't have to take narcotics anymore, then yes it can be helpful. but if you are trying to control pain buprenorphine sucks, you can't take other painkillers on top of it and in my experience it ranks somewhere between codeine and hydrocodone.

I so totally agree w/ ya PK, I cant believe they give bup to people for pain control. I mean I even shoot the shit and my back still hurts after. I cant believe they are giving it out for pain-control, it makes nosense to me whatsoever. I think an aspirin would work better for pain control than bup.

indeed; in my experience nothing comes anywhere near close to OC for serious chronic pain relief; even MS Contin pales in comparison. Subutex/Suboxone is for withdrawal-prevention maintenance, taper-down treatment, and management of minor chronic pain when other opioid agonists are not desirable for some reason.

Eh, just to get this out of the way, I don't really care enough to get offended by anyone online. So, I'm hardly mad or anything of that sort over what all was replied. Haha. And even though it was put quite crudely, thanks for the tip. It was just a simple question in need of direction, and considering the fact that I am a "newb", I hadn't figured out the whole section on suboxone. All righty. Done posting now.

WTF? Most of this thread was a serious discussion about your question, and don't let one person who's in an asshole mood make you stop posting.
Anyway welcome, and I sure hope you keep posting. (and I'm not being sarcastic):)

OOPS... :o I just thought you gave up... my fault. I've seen several people get pretty upset over small shit. I knew you were better than that... that's why I was surprised... sorry for jumping in!
I am officially elevating myself above the fray of interchange that doesn't involve me... starting (as some say) 'now'.
But to answer your question I liked subs better but wasn't ready to be done with getting high, therefore it didn't work for me.
