I'd really like to see a psychedelics section added to the forum.Let me know if this is possible.:D

From the perpective of the forum it doesn't appear to quite fit. However given the nature of the psychedelic substance, how they can dramatically affect a narcotic consumer, it would be worthwhile to have such a section. Psychedelics are excellent spiritual foods and deserved to be discussed on there proper use in an open way.
Hope you get your section too.

I think jacky has mentioned this before, but dopamine is believed to play a major role in hallucinations... and there are certain substances, such as salvia d and dxm, both of which have opioid and psychedelic characteristics...
Also the atypical antipsychotics given for schizophrenia and other illnesses with psychotic features are antagonistic to the dopamine and seratonin receptors... I even had an experience once with one of the meds knocking me out of a really high-level lsd trip (took them for sleep for a short time)...
So I think it would be a good idea to have a forum here for psychedelics so maybe we can have a place to talk about more of the links between them mentioned above.
Plus part of our core membership trips all the time, and its talked about anyway, so why not have a single forum? :)
Just my 2 cents worth (probably less).

We've been thinking about expanding our discovery (http://forum.opiophile.org/forumdisplay.php?f=97) section to include some of this, plus info on novel opioids, etc. Perhaps moving 'Other Drugs' here?

that could work. of course we want to keep our focus on opiates, but keep in mind.....the two actually do overlap! for example, salvia divinorum is actually a kappa opiate receptor agonist (antagonist? heh....one of those anyway) as its primary mode of action. it's not the only one.
there are even potential psychedelics in the Fentanyl class of chemicals. just a few of many that are overlapping between these realms.....

yes, it is my belief that opiate receptors may play a large part of certian psychedelic mindstates....or entheogenic for certian, just look at the Eleusinian mysteries for example..a real possibility that the poppy was associated with this hidden ritual.
and the kappa receptor is implicated in the psychedelic mindstates of no2, ketamine, and salvia divinorum, with the case of salvia divinorum it is a proven and accepted entheogen with the scholars.
I think there is alot of interplay with the receptors in the brain, cannabis and opioids more recently have been purported to have all sorts of interplay, alcohol as well....and in the ventral tegmental region of the mesolimbic system certian mu opioid and dopamine are actually fused together, giving rise sometimes to the "paradoxical stimulation" that certian opiates can have, possibly associated with heroin and buprenorphine more potently than others I imagine.
I at least think that some of the EUPHORIC qualitys of certian drug driven mindstates coined as entheogenic/psychedelic/psychonautical are due in part to opiate/opioid receptor agonist effects.
THC is reported to have some intimate effects on the kappa opioid and mu opioid receptors...thinking about some of my THC driven experiments I do not doubt it!
I am all for a psychedelic section, entheogenic section obviously, but in the past just posted in the other forums...we also have the ibogaine section, which is an obvious entheogen/psychedelic.
thanks for the interest in both! this website...and drugs!
