Anyone try this? Supposedly it helps but I don't know how well it works or how it works. I don't know if it works for that matter. Maybe it helps the anxiety but maybe there is more to it. I will be trying this some time soon and will report back.

Funny you mention it. I just used these 2 days ago for kicking. It seems to help quite a bit in letting your mind wander from the situation, but there are also studies to suggest that it helps reverse opiate tolerance. Phenibut is chemically similar to Baclofen which "Ameisen believes, based on his own experience and other anecdotal evidence, that Baclofen acts on some mechanism within the brains of addicts to suppress cravings brought on by addiction to various substances such as alcohol, cocaine, and heroin." [wikipedia]

I found that when taking Phenibut 500mg/day and about 2-3mg of Melatonin at night... sleeping is much easier during withdrawal and actually the Melatonin will jump-start the withdrawal and make it much more painful but ideally you will be able to fall asleep and deal with much of this pain during your sleep. I have found that this actually shaves a good 24 to 36 hours off of the total time you will be withdrawaling. It is effective. There are also studies that DXM reverses opiate tolerance (you can buy standalone DXM on amazon under the brand name HOLD).

Just based on research (and not on experience) I do not suggest taking Phenibut other than for the worst few days of kicking because Phenibut has it's own withdrawal syndrome which I presume is like withdrawaling from Xanax bars so be careful.

The flood gates are opened and I get answers. Thanks Morfiend. Did the phenibut help the actual kicking (RLS) and other physical symptoms or just the mental, craving stuff?

I couldn't tell. It seemed to me to actually ease the physical symptoms to some degree. However I managed to sleep a good 30 some hour straight right after quiting so I had a hard time creating a timeline on this one. I still felt fatigued and had a terrible headache and muscle pain and also took tylenol extended release as well as dicyclomine which does wonders for abdominal discomfort so I can't say based on my one experience with it that it helped other than psychologically. It seemed more effective for withdrawal than the generally used benzodiazepines like alprazolam and diazepam so this leads me to believe it was not just a psychological help. I also remember reading something about Phenibut having a similar mechanism of action as the Melatonin as far as decreasing tolerance (ie. not only do they both presumably make withdrawal syndrome last a shorter amount of time, but you will get higher next time you use if you don't quit... but that would be irresponsible wouldn't it? lol)

Yes, phenibut has many nasty side effects and a pretty bad withdrawal on its own. If you have any issues from Xanax or other similar products, i suggest staying away from phenibut.

I have used phenibut in the past during WD from a small amount of opiates, it helped a little with the can't get comfortable feeling but not for one second was I not aware that I was in WD. It helped about the level that a couple beers would, it would definitely make sleeping easier.

I dispute however that it is dangerous, I used it for days in a row and never noticed any symptoms of WD, phenibut is not really rewarding on its own so I don't see why anyone would take it long enough for WD to be an issue.
