Why is it that hydrocodone is weaker than oxycodone guys and gals? How much of a difference is there between the two in their pure form by themselves? And what is the chemical explanation for this? Thanks.

Let me just say, and I'm not trying to be mean, that if you use the search engine here you will likely get tons of information. In fact, you can even google this. OK dollface?
I'd tell you what you want, but finding this out yourself is a crucial step in learning the "basics".

Hahah I appreciate your response, made me laugh. You are correct, and I've seen people be reprimanded too many times before to not UTMFSE right? Laziness. Smack this into the trash if any mod so desires...*Sheepish grin :o

It's alright. No harm, no foul.
10mg of Oxycodone = 6.67mg Hydrocodone.
as for the chemical explanation? They are just different molecules... Like peanut butter and honey.

(oxycodone)

(hydrocodone)
I should also note that oxycodone is DEA Schedule II in any form i.e. oxycontin, percocet, percodan. While hydrocodone is generally a Schedule III (unless you find just pure hydrocodone powder)
I hope this is of some help to you.

I'd just like to add that tallthough my learned friend above is correct, the difference in how "strong" it's felt is often individual. For some its more like 50% for some they're about equal.
And as for why one is stronger than the other? Minute differences in the chemical makeup of the drugs make some attach stronger to the opiate receptors than others.
Heh, I guess the peanutbutter explanation isn't quite off. The smoother the peanutbutter, the better it sticks to the bread or something like that?

WHERE IS THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE HERE?!?!
And, sorry Iris, I really wasn't trying to be a cunt with what I said. Its just that there is so many wonderful things to learn! (Geez, I don't sound like a teacher, do I? I come from a family of teachers... But I myself dont teach. Runs in the family?!)
ELUESISISIS: You are very right. Personally, I can't deal with the hydro. No matter how much. But oxy, yes and yes.

Sometimes it's good to just sit on your ass and have someone bring the info to you. That's why I prefer. :p

another name for oxycodone could be 14-hydroxy-hydrocodone. the two are very similar in terms of chemical makeup. the reason oxy is stronger is because at the 14 position (type in the word morphinan into google for the image to find the 14 position) it has an hydroxy molecule instead of just a plain old hydrogen. different substitutions at different positions create different potency, different binding profile or even atagonist qualities. and at the 14 pretty much anything other than hydrogen will make a stronger drug. hope that helped
i am also convinced that 14 subs also increase euphoria because theres not too many people who would say that hydro is more euphoric than oxy, im certainly never gonna say that

No No NO! You mixed the two up its actually 6.67mg of oxycodone = 10 mg of hydrocodone. Think about it oxy is the stronger of the two.
