A father who supplied his 18-year-old son with heroin has been told by a judge he was "morally responsible" for the teenager's death in a car crash.

Danny Packer died after crashing into a lamppost in Sheerness, Kent, in 2003.

Maidstone Crown Court heard his father Shaun Packer, 40, of Victoria Street, Sheerness, had bought and cooked up heroin for his son before the crash.

Packer admitted three counts of supplying a Class A drugs and will be sentenced on 15 April.

The court heard Danny Packer, a trainee carpenter, had been living with his aunt but moved in with his father two weeks before the fatal crash on 25 November 2003.

Stephen Chippeck, prosecuting, told the court: "There came a stage from 21 November when Danny made certain requests for his father to 'sort him out'. His father duly did." Mr Chippeck said the Crown believed Packer had bought the drugs, heated them up and injected his son with them, but the defendant denied administering the drugs.

The court heard Packer's family had turned against him since his son's death and the word "murderer" had been written on his car in white paint.

Judge Michael Lawson told Packer that while he was not legally responsible for the death he was "morally responsible".

The judge said: "You know as well as I do that you bear the moral responsibility.

"You have contributed to the killing of your son."

The victim's mother said outside court she was glad to have had "justice". Sentencing was postponed until 15 April for reports to be carried out.
