MAOI's and opiates

would MAOI's potentiate opiates/opioids? would it allow you to orally take an opiate peptide like dermorphin (like how people take an maoi and dmt)?
just wondering. I know it would be very dangerous, but would it work?

I've wondered about interactions between opiates and MAOI's for a long time. I think next time I score some dope I'll ingest some syrian rue tea and hour before I inject. This should tell us if there's an interaction between them that isn't related to absorption. I've heard that maoi's have no affect on opiates because opiates aren't metabolised by an MAO. But i've heard many anecdotal reports of grapefruit juice increasing both DXM and heroin as well as pain pills. As far as I know this is because the grapefruit juice inhibits an enzyme that breaks the dope or dex down. MAOI's are wide acting drugs, and I bet no ones figured out what enzymes what maoi's inhibit. I can only do dope on fridays and saturdays because of my "random" drug testing. I'll give it a shot this week and post the results. Wish me luck...

be extremelly fucking careful it could dangerously lower your blood pressure. experimenting with MAOIs is like russian roulette, even eating the wrong kinds of foods while on an MAOI can cause death. I read online that it will extend the length and increase respiratory depression. be very fucking careful if you decide to try it, there is always the chance you could wind up dead

Yeah, you even have to avoid cheese with maoi's. I'm just going to wait till next week, I should be all set with the court bs, that way if I end up in the hospital I won't have to explain it to the judge. I'm planning on fallowing the normal ayahausca guidlines for foods a couple days before I try it. The upside of using the syrian rue is that I've tacken pretty large doses of it before so I know it's affects on it's own, and I know the affects of opiate as well so it should be a fairly controlled experiment.

Here is the info on MAOI's:

Paregoric is absolutely right concerning the dangers of MAOI's.
In regards to their use with Opiates; MAOI"s and Demerol use can be lethal. It can not only lead to seizures, but can also lead to Serotonin Syndrome, which is dangerous and can also be lethal.

For anyone interested, the common MAOI"s are; Parnate, Nardil, Marplan(most commonly prescribed) I-deprenyl, Aurorox, Manerix, Furazolidone, Pargyline are also MAOI"s, but are not used as often, Especially in the U.S.
Ayahuasca contains MAOI's as well.

You do want to avoid foods containing Tyramine. Tyramine which cannot be metabolized , will have an effect on Norepinephrine, which can cause an increase in Blood Pressure, causing a Hypertensive Crisis. This is especially dangerous and can be lethal( cause strokes, MI)
Tyramine is in cheeses and in sour cream, yogurt, and as well, raisins, figs, and avocados, bananas. It is also found in beef or chiken livers(aahhh, I know how hard it is to give these up) and soy sauce, fava beans, and ginseng.

For those not familiar with MAOI's; Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors
Serotonin, Norepinephrine, Dopamine, are Neurotransmitters that send messages in the brain. They are metabolized by a protein in the brain- Monoamine Oxidase.
MAO's work by blocking the clean up activity(metabolization) of these neurotransmitters. When excess neurotransmitters are not metabolized they begin to pile-up in the brain leading to depression. By increasing the monoamines the symptoms of depression are managed.

MAOI's should not be used with SSRI's- Serotonin Syndrome- Hypertensive Crisis
MAOI's and Psychedelics - Increases the effects of Psychedelics.
MAOI's and Stimulants, including Ecstacy can lead to Hypertensive Crisis(this is lethal)

Serotonin Syndrome- Due to dangerously high levels of Serotonin in the brain.
Symtoms include: Nausea, Vomiting, blackouts, Memory loss, Increase in the Heartrate and Blood Pressure.
SSRI's block the reuptake of Serotinin and why they are dangerous when used with MAOI's.

Best to avoid the MAOI"s if you can and try another class of Antidepressants. They should be used with caution if you have to take them and a strict diet is a wise choice.

Knowing how and why these drugs work is a good idea and really should apply to all drugs you take or plan on taking.
Get to know your meds, How will they interact with other drugs?
MAOI"s are not used as commonly as other antidepressants because of the above interactions and lethal side-effects.
If you are on MAOI's- Do not stop the drug abruptly and you should be under the strict care of a doctor.

None of the data suggested a large risk associtated with the use of Opiates. Demerol being an Opioid, can cause seizures and is a dangerous combination! There was not much more in terms of data relating to Opiates. I would suggest not taking the risk and if need be, Going on another type of antidepressant would be the best way to go.

I am a very experience drug user. tried nearly everything, read about it all extensively beforehand. among those i've tried are syrian rue extract. i researched and understood it's pharmacology completely before use, nevertheless i still decided to try it with other drugs. i remember mixing it with mdma and ketamine. never did i take more than the tiniest pinch in a capsule and, of the handfull of times i did it, every time it got me so high that i couldn't speak english. 1/4 dose of mdma had more than high enough to be considered overdosing, though somehow i managed to get through witout serious complications, besides inability to say more than 3 words in a row even 10hours after dosing.

I was a ketamine addict for about 8 months. i used 1oz every 2 weeks. obviously i had a tolerance. one night at a rave when i did rue+mdma (again it devastated me, this time i took only a fraction of a pill, notice the unpredictability). after partial recovery from the mdma i a few bumps of k. later my friend told me i went into a hole while dancing (that is i was dancing, then i wasn't, then i fell over like a 2x4)

i threw the rest of the rue out. i value my life!!

i wouldn’t bother supajunkey its to risky i accidentally did it about a year ago with auroix and codeine cant remember what happened but i remember saying that I m not doing that agen, plus rue is a proper strong MAOI
