Alright so we all know that Cimetidine (Tagament, the OTC heartburn pill) can be used to potentiate alot of drugs, such as Opaites and Benzodiazepines... this should be old news by now. I was wondering though if it would interact with Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta)? Does anyone know if Tagament will potentiate Ritalin or any other Phenethylamine/Amphetamine type drugs? Any help would be greatly apprieciated!

here's what I found from epocrates:

[Ritalin/proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers]

caution advised with Ritalin LA only: combo may alter delayed-release properties of Ritalin LA; result in premature dissolution of enteric coated beads (gastric pH increased)

and here's a list of possible drug interactions:

acetaminophen/caffeine/CNS depressant combos

acetaminophen/tramadol

antacids

aspirin/caffeine/CNS depressant combos

barbiturates

bupropion

caffeine

caffeine/ergotamine

carbamazepine

central alpha 2 agonists

didanosine

fluoxetine/olanzapine

H2 blockers

lansoprazole/naproxen

lindane topical

linezolid

MAO inhibitors

modafinil

phenytoins

pimozide

proton pump inhibitors

sibutramine

SSRIs, all

sympathomimetics, all

tiagabine

tramadol

tricyclic antidepressants

warfarin

Cool, cool... thank's for the info ComaTOES, I apprieciate the researching you put in for me. I believe that there is no potentiation for Ritalin or other Phenethylamine or Amphetamine based drugs. I ran a search about Tagament and Ritalin on this site that I found that checks for drug interactions and they said it was fine. Check out the thread I just made a sec. ago for the link... pretty cool stuff.

That whole
"caution advised with Ritalin LA only: combo may alter delayed-release properties of Ritalin LA; result in premature dissolution of enteric coated beads (gastric pH increased)"
thing is only saying that the increase in gastric pH that occures on Tagaments may interfer with the time released coating on things like Concerta or Ritalin LA... which wouldn't be so much of a problem because most people that I know that use Methylphenidate do so either intranasally or IV (although that is gonna stop... way to much of a coke-esque crash for their taste)

Also, can't believe they don't have the Opaites on there, they definately interact. Well, OK... they got Tramadol on there. Ultram, Opoid's bastard child.
