I've always liked mid-80's early 90's english (sorry british peeps here, lack of description on this side of the pond) rock, new wave, alternative, neo-psycedilia? types of music. The Church, Echo and the Bunnymen seem to be the most famous.

the question I have, is Im trying to find some other of these types of bands, and being that is no real "record store" anymore, it's hard to find someone that sells CDs that knows anything about music that is 5 years old or more.

I've also checked out mighty lemon drops, Electronic. I have somemore, but I haven't filed them yet, so they're buried in I-Tunes.

anyone else that knows what I'm speaking about/listening to?

Some similar bands would be the Psychedelic Furs, The Chameleons UK, Icicle Works, The Teardrop Explodes, and The Legendary Pink Dots (though Edward Ka-spel's Voice is an acquired taste).

You may also like Love & Rockets, who spawned from the classic Gothic Rock band Bauhaus.

I HATE CLEAR CHANNEL!

also, try www.homersmusic.com. its a local music store, looks like they have all their stuff online too. the employees are VERY knowledgeable(in case you are in town). the questionnaire to get hired there is very long and very music oriented.

I dunno if this fits in the category, but I fuckin love Missing Persons.

I'm sure you're a fan Opiyum, I mean, c'mon, Terry Bozzio has got to be one of the best drummers on the planet.

Actually, now that i think about it, how 'bout another bunch of ex- Zappa alumni: Duran Duran, and The Power Station. (RIP Robert Palmer).

Would you consider Brian Eno, David Bowie, and Robert Fripp (and the collaberations of these guys) in this genre? They've done some pretty cool shit.

Im massive fan of Brian Eno. True story: my friends parents bought his beach house on lake michigan, they didn't care, but i thought it was cool that maybe he got some ideas of new music there, he must of, it was beautiful.

have you listened to the reissues of "Ambient 1 Music for Airports? or Apollo Atmospheres?" or you into his earlier stuff like "Needle's in the Camels Eye?"

i like this thread. Anyone pick up Aphex Twin's "Drukqs"? bit of weird, even for him, but tracks like Avril 14th make it worth a buy.

I love em' too! I have some of their stuff on vinyl, as well as some Icicle Works, some other new wave bands, and a bunch of gothic rock. Too bad my Mom accidentally broke both of my phonographs (one 4 years ago, the other 3.)

P.S. Ant, Brian Eno is great, and Roxy Music went downhill after he left. I'd recommend checking out their self-titled debut, but I can't personally recomend anything after that.

Talking Heads are prlly my favorite. The movie "Stop Making Sense," directed by John Demme, is one of my all time favorite movies. I've turned on so many people to that particular movie. I never could figure out what "label" to put on Talking Heads music.

Surprisingly I haven't heard them, and I'm a Numan fan. Have you heard the stuff he's been working on since the late 90's? He began adding elements of industrial, and darkwave. Now each album he's released since this period began has been darker, heavier, and more electronic then the last as the industrial elements become more prominent. He just came out with a new album "Jagged", I hope it's good.

Edit: And Yes, I am of course a fan of his 80's solo work as well. Hmm, Just downloaded "Haunted" from http://www.jagged-album.com. He's now damn near industrial metal, with traditional Numan elements.

Hey I almost forgot to mention a band I don't really know much about, but they do have a retro-electro sound... the band is called "IMA ROBOT" and they have a pretty unique sound. I think most people would either love it or hate it.

Thom York? Hell yeah man, Radiohead kick's ass. Anyone know what's up with his funky crooked, off center, twitching eye though? Whenever I see Thom York, I can't help just focusing in on it and wondering what's goin' on with it. Was he just born like that or is he like always tweaking so bad that his eye flutters like that... of course that doesn't answer the off center question. Hmm, maybe he got a batch of some of that MPTP shit and it's like a parkinsons type thing and paralyzed (sp) in a twitching state like that. I don't know, can't explain it... the Thom York eye quagmire mystifies me. I can't be the only one whose wondered WTF is up with it.

There he is in all his glory, the picture does little justice to the twitching though... kinda gotta see him in action. His eye intriges me because I don't understand the meaning behind it... like the Mona Lisa's smile.

good question chem! the story, or the one that is listed, is actually a fix of a problem. when he was a kid, he was blind in that eye, and the surgery to repair it, made it, i believe, paralized.

we tried buying tix for the concert here in chicago, at a small venue, to preview their upcoming cd. before the tix were even sold out, the fucking scalpers had the tix on ebay, at starting bid of 300 bux a ticket!!! and the face value is 40 dollars. fucking pissed:mad: i hate ticket master

yea, i've had it on constant repeat on my dvd player for the past 5 years. great flick, but at least on my copy, they only have 2 chapters, so, going to a favorite part, is invovling playing with the fast forward, and reverse buttons for like 10 mins.

i got a couple months ago, their live dvd, taped in london, asbury?, from 94. awsome.
