I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences in one of those rehab facilities that costs a couple of thousand dollars or more... I want to send someone i know to one of these places, but dont know what to expect, or if its even worth the money. any feedback/experiences will be appreciated.

An acquaintance spent a bit of cash at a small hospital in Tarpon Springs Florida where they do detox with sedation. Not sure what they use to keep patients out cold, but they give naloxone IV to induce withdrawal, and the patient sleeps through the worst of the symptoms for 24 to 36 hours. The post-withdrawal issues are still all the same, with cravings and psychological support, 12-step programs and so on, but the roughest part seems to have been eased a bit.

I can tell you from personal experience about spending time in a rehab facility; I spent some time at Hazelden in Minnesota. Another 12-step program (what program isn’t these days?) that didn’t to me much good. However, I have to admit that I was fairly unwilling at the time, and constantly thinking of getting high when I got out (which I did, about 4 hours after.) It was expensive, and the detox was shit – a couple of clonidine patches and a week to kick.
I had more benefit from the smaller programs I went to which detoxed me with buprenorphine and then let me go. I eventually had to make a drastic change in my lifestyle – new job, new apt, new surroundings, etc. and to do what I could on my own. I’m not going to denounce 12-step programs, as they do work for some people, but I’d never personally recommend one.
If you’re kicking in the cash for this venture, I’d put it towards Ibogaine. I’d think it would be money well spent. There’s a couple of members here on the board who have done it – might be worth it to get in touch with some of them?
Good luck! Let us know how it goes….
