Morphine is very addictive and easy to become physicaly dependant. Codeine turns into morphine (which is how it works as a pain killer). So is codeine as addictive as morphine? IF it were.... wouldnt it be the same schedaul? I guess i never really thought about it from that view point. From what i understand 10mg rougly equals one mg of codeine so 100mg codeine = 10mg morphine. Would it be the same in regaurds to being just as physicaly depednant? But then i come to this thought. Hydrocodone is a painkiller that converts to something else too (hydromorphine(SP) ) but that is stronger then morphine (the chemical it converts to) yet hydrocodone withdrawls arent as bad as morphine.

I see your point.

But in some respects, I think it all comes down to everyones body is different. Some people can take hydro for lets say 2 months and experience no w/d's to very light symptoms. While someone else can take them exactly the same for the same length of time and go thru a typical hydro w/d which I guess on average you can say would be about 3-5 days at the most. While a typical Oxy w/d lasts about 2 weeks and yet about 30-45 days for 100% of symptoms to disappear. Different meds, of course similar yet different withdrawl severity and length. Add to that the variance between individuals and there you have it.

Yet your points stand to reason that based on the end result of the medications chemical transformation you SHOULD by all counts be able to estimate or correlate its w/d's with medications of similar makeups, yet you cannot in the end.

Shit.. I think aside from saying that everyone is different... I just ended up saying the same thing you did. HA! LMFAO! :D

Hi guys. I went to "advanced search" and put in "codeine conversion" and about 15+ threads with those 2 words popped up... Some of which tried to explain the biomechanics behind the conversion to M, etc...

Check it out and see if any of those help you. Good luck! (And welcome to the site again, sst).

codiene converts to morphine? if thats true, you can load up all day on morphine, but you can only have so much codiene in one day. your body has a ceiling on codeine.

Yea codeine converts to morphine, just like hydrocodone converts. Codeine itself isnt a pain killer but what it becomes (morphine) is (obviously). What i was thinking.... well im probably going to get a lot of codeine soon but i remembered all of the horror storries about morphine WD so i went (shocked face) oh no!!! Going off codeine (100mg day) would be like 10mg morphine a day habbit (200 codeine 20mg morphine etc).
