Does anyone on here have any experience with this situation?

That is, has anyone who is prescribed Suboxone/Subutex had any expereince with trying to legitimate pain medicine for legitimate pain down the road?

One of the biggest things I'm worried about if I do go on Suboxone is being able to get the necessary pain meds down the road. What about if you were to be on Sub, and then off for a bit, and then needed the meds? Would it be possible then?

I really don't want to shoot myself in the foot and never be able to get legitimate pain medication again, ya know?

Thanks in advance.

I think it would depend on the situation and the doctor.

Are you meaning for chronic pain issues? Or, do you mean if you were to have an accident (minor, like a sprained ankle; or severe, like a car accident)?

If you mean for CP issues, I'd say it would probably hinder you. If you have records of Suboxone on your insurance or charts or whatever, I'd say most doctors would be unwilling to script you strong, effective pain meds for chronic pain, unless you got lucky and had a really cool doctor, OR could somehow prove to them that you weren't going to abuse them

If you're talking an accident, I'd say you'd be probably out of luck for something minor. Now, if you were in a major accident, I think they'd be more likely to give you pain meds, but it would probably be something like methadone that isn't as nearly as fun IMO, and smaller / stingier scripts. But, I mean, yeah, if you were going to need surgery, they would have to give you something. I just wouldn't expect an amount like a non-maintenance patient would receive.

If you were to not tell them about the Suboxone, or if they didn't find out, you'd kind of be screwed. I mean, I think it depends again on the situation. If you have a sprained ankle, there's really no point in telling them. Take your measly script of 16 Vicodin or Tylenol 3 or whatever and go on your merry way.

If you were in a major accident, you do really need to tell them, because they'd have to discontinue the Suboxone / Subutex and put you on a full-agonist OR give you massive (and I do mean massive) doses to overcome the effects of the bupe, because it's so good at blocking full agonists. If you were in that situation, I'd definitely inform the Sub doctor and made sure they called the ER / hospital doctor and talked to them personally. Because a doctor is more likely to listen to another doctor than a known addict. Plus, I'm sure some hospital / ER doctors don't even know what Suboxone is.

I had the same worry. My original doc was my pcp who prescribed me suboxone and he wouldnt touch my CP with a ten foot stick. I switched PCP's, told him i was in pain and he started me on oxies b4 he got my records. THe next month he got my records, asked me about the suboxone, i told him i was in pain so i was forced to buy meds from friennds when it got bad and that my parents found out and forced me into treatment. He didnt seem to care at all but he's a kickass doctor.

It's really all about luck, you just have to keep trying doctor after doctor until you find one that believes u enough to treat your pain. I was extremely lucky, it only took me 6 months to get to 90mg morphine and 4mg dilaudid a day, and my doc I have now was the third doc I tried.

Narko pretty much summed it.

I think the situation would have to be pretty major for you to get (good) opiates. I'd say something like major surgery or a serious accident would get you pain meds.

Here's an example, a good friend of mine is on Subs, he had surgery to repair a inguinal hernia. The doctor knew he was taking subs, so the doctor gave him enough Percocet to take for 3 days prior to the proceedure to get him off the Subs, and then sent him home after the surgery with 20 Percocet. A guy I work with had the same proceedure done and got sent home with 100 Percocet. So I guess it is possible to get meds, just depends on what the *need* for them is.

All depends on the situation and the place. Some states have the perscritption monitoring program. If a doc sees that you have been perscribed subs, he more than likely won't write you anything unless you have a personal relationship with the doc or some other good reason.

If you went to another doctor, I don't think you will have a problem.

I am in the same situation as you are. I am going to eventually need legit pain meds from all the injuries I've sustained over the past 10 years. I'm hoping it didn't screw myself as well.
