I'm hoping to travel to Canada this summer, and with the ferocity of border patrols I was curious about bringing kratom powder into Canada. Can the sniffer dogs detect it? Would they take me in just because they didn't know what the hell it was?

how much do you plan to bring across? I think the size would raise huge alarms if your bringing sacks across, legal or not. I would imagine getting hassled regardless of the border patrol education on kratom. and if they do know what it is, they've probably get the negitive info from the DEA.

I don't think it would be worth the potential hassle. This could turn into a perfect example of being guilty until proven innocent. I recall reading about Bob Weir back in the day getting arrested for bringing bee pollen into Canada, because they didn't know what it was. I'm sure his entourage was pretty suspicious looking to the border patrol though. We have an awesome nurse on here, it would be cool to have an attorney on here as well to answer various questions.

it may be a produce problem as well. I have had canada's border patrol take away apples and oranges in the past in certian checkpoints.

They'll do a field test on it there w/ whatever they use, is kratom a controlled substance in the great white north? Even if it's not they most likey take it and send you now your way. Are you driving flying and again how much are you thinking of bringing?

I was planning on driving because I know that airport security is even worse. It does look conspicuous, despite its legality, and they would have to stall or hold me if they found an anonymous bag of greenish brown powder in order to test it or question me over what it was.

But I was only planning on bringing 4 ounces.

And mailing it to myself is very good idea.

Yes to my knowledge kratom is legal in canada, even though I can't find definitive proof. But as you said, storing away 4 ounces of any green leafy material could slow the trip down a little.

If it were me, I would put enough to get me through the trip into a coffee mug, with water, and mail the remainder to myself. You can always dry it out, or just make tea with wet leaves, depending on your preference.

That is, if you're worried about maintenance and running out before you get your delivery in the mail.

Most people vastly over-estimate the capability of LE to recognize things. Heck, most cops could probably walk right past my poppy gardens during the veg phase and not recognize a thing!
