View Full Version : Did I almost shoot an artery?

I was trying to hit a vein when I decided to try another blue line on my arm. I get the needle in and register it. The blood looked strange though. It was really dark and seemed heavier than normal. It seemed to sink to the bottom of the barrel instead of starting to mix. It also seemed to burn pretty good. Figuring this was a bad sign, I decided against shooting there. When I pulled it out, it seemed to form a little blood blister under the skin. The vein (or artery) runs right along the side of the crook of my arm. It looks to be right near the surface and blue.
So? What is it? Vein or Artery?? Any guesses?

Did it hurt like Hell!! It's an artery. Sometimes you know how stringes don't suck up liquids too great. That happens when you draw blood sometimes too so it doesnt mix and sits in the bottom. As far as the blister thing, I thing that is just blood that escaped from the vien. Usually happens more to me with older syringes.

I don't know though. If it feels unlike any other experiences Im guessing then that it was an artery.

Whe you say near the crook I guesse u dont mean the inside one but the kinda on the fore arm. Of so its def a vein.

It's a part miss or an artery.Either way it hurts and you're wasting dope.

It's impossible to diagnose over the web,but apart from pain, the biggest sign of hitting an artery is the pressure needed to push the plunger in.I've got pretty messed up veins, but I can tell if I'm in by the amount of pressure required to push the plunger.

I didn't actually shoot anything into it, but it did hurt just to register it. It's about 2" to the right of the actual crook and almost onto the forearm. I don't know which it was, but I've always been a bit paranoid of hitting one. I know they say they are usually a lot deeper than veins. I only use 1/2" insulin needles, so I think that would lower my chance. Just me being a hypochondriac. :o

Better safe than sorry. Good choice to not inject there if it didnt feel right.

You will know if you hit an artery.
Nunber one it it gonna hurt like fuck and secondly you will see bright red frothy blood fill the syringe
very quickly.

Pull out and put hard pressure for about 10 mins at the site. Keep a bandage tightly on that after for a day.
It will be something you won't forget.

Sounds to me like you just missed your shot.

Never try to inject into an artery.

OK, so put some ice on the area and if you did miss and injected your shot- Put heat on the area!

You can make a quick hot pack by putting a wet towel in the microwave and heat it up
for a few minutes then put into a ziplock bag(large size) and wrap around dry towel if really hot which will depend on how long you had it in the microwave. Then apply if not to hot.
