Nope. There are some cases where codeine is injected, but not in the US and as far as i know only with a special preparation, and in a hospital setting. Codeine itself (and NOT the impurities, pill binders, etc.) causes edema and all sorts of bad stuff when injected, so don't do it.

And believe me, anybody will tell you i'm one of the less "harm reduction" oriented people on here: i tend to stray from the "there's a risk to it, so don't take that risk" attitude that's prevalent here (for good reason, don't get me wrong). But this is SERIOUSLY something that has NO benefit, since codeine isn't effective unless it goes through the liver, and rather than just being RISKY, it's something that most LIKELY will go wrong and cause big problems.

Kind of like shooting unfiltered tar: most people on here will tell you not to do it, since there's a risk of abcess and worse, BUT, most of the time that won't actually happen.

shooting codeine, on the other hand, is something that more often than not will cause serious complications.

And, more on what i mentioned earlier: codeine is PRIMARILY effective because it's metabolized into morphine. A lot of people think that's the ONLY reason it's effective, but that's not entirely true. Codeine IS an active opiate on its own, it's just really, really weak. Like, you'd have to take a LOT of codeine to get an effect if it didn't get metabolized into morphine.

So basically, 90% of what you feel when you take codeine is actually morphine. When the codeine hits your liver, about 10% of it gets turned into morphine (the rest gets turned into norcodeine, and other weird stuff). Now, when you inject it, the codeine never hits your liver (at least not until most of it's already gone anyway), so none of it gets turned into morphine, so it's for most uses, pointless.

it's like the opposite of heroin: if you just eat heroin, it gets metabolized by your stomach and liver into plain ol' morphine, and is much weaker. If you inject it, it never hits the liver/stomach, so it remains as heroin. Although oral heroin IS somewhat stronger than oral morphine (look up the heroin pills at the turn of the 20th century that were sold), that's mostly for other reasons that don't matter right now.

So, after my pointless tangent, the basic answer is: no, you can't shoot codeine, and even if you could, it would most likely be LESS, not more, potent.

I've done it: nobody does it twice...horrible pins and needles, no euphoria...even hardcore junkies no *not* to do codeine...we had it mixed in w/morphine of some kind of another, after a drugstore burglary...I forget the details, but we couldn't tell the morphine pills from the codeine pills:they both looked like little saccharine tablets or something. but a couple of us gave it a try, and all I remember is this horrible *itchy* hives like crap hitting me...no good at all...never tried that again: we just ate the pills...

If you can get a buzz from codeine, just eat the little buggers....

Otherwise save them for withdrawal. They help with that quite a bit.

If you can't get a buzz from eating them, then there is nothing to do with them except use them to stay well when you run out of real drugs.

They are better than nothing though.

isn't it pulmonary edema that's caused by IVing codeine? i'm fairly sure that i'm remembering this right, but i know that you definitely should NEVER shoot the shit. google pulmonary edema if you don't know what it is... nothing to fuck around and take chances with.

sorry, i'm usually able to give more detailed and definite answers, but i'm having such a horrible pain day that i can barely keep my concentration here.

Injecting codeine is very bad! It can cause an extreme increase in cerebral spinal fluid pressure, can cause brain hemmorrage, stroke, and extreme pain like you head is going to blow off. Not a nice feeling, if you live. Google it, you get some info fo sure. DO NOT INJECT CODEINE

At the time, I had a very low tolerance, but taking codeine with fioricet certainly worked better for pain and MUCH better for euphoria. After a while, I wouldn't consider taking them any other way.

You can DIE IV'ing codeine or at the very least feel VERY shitty for some time after the injection with no buzz

You can inject codeine subcutaneously and/or intramuscularly though
it's still being done in some hospitals, i believe

I agree with most others here:

Don't IV codeine !!

Even in a hospital with pharm-pure "Injectable" Codeine Phosphate, it is only designed for IM (intra-muscular) use only. There are clear warnings against its use IV !!! !

Even fucked-up Howard Hughes knew to only to give such injections IM (I think he did anyway). Even though the dumb-fuck broke-off several needles in his arms (found during autopsy x-rays).

How fucked-up does one have to be to bust-off a needle in your arm--especially during an IM injection?? I mean, it still takes 10-20 minutes for the drug to hit the system, enough time, one would think, to pull the freaking needle our of his arm!!

I can see this happening with IV use (morphine or heroin) where the rush comes ~quickly.
