I went an seen my doc in KY I've been seeing for a while now to get tramadol for maintenance and he informed me that tramadol is now a Schedule IV. Is this true? This doc has always been shady about pain meds.

I used to live in KY, and unless things have recently changed, I can quite confidently say that Tramadol is NOT a scheduled med. In fact, if you go to Urgent Treatment Centers, they WILL give you as much trams as you want, but don't think about asking for a good narcotic. They even have signs up. They seem to not think it can be abused. As far as your doctor, I'd say he's just being stingy / overly cautious. God, it's Tramadol. It's not like it's anything good.
And what do you mean by maintenance? Do you mean for pain / CP, or for opiate addiction? If it's for the latter, he could just be saying "I don't want to do this / treat you anymore, go to a clinic." That could be his way of blowing you off. If it's for pain, then I'd say find a new doctor. If they're unwilling to give Trams, they're definitely going to be unwilling to script anything better.

I have no experience with Tramadol, but from what I read Tramadol is the dog poo of opiates. So I have a question, is Tramadol even shittier than codeine lol? For example would you guys rather have 400mg of Tramadol or 400mg of codeine?

i would say let tramadol and codeine go duke it out in the corner while i slam some dope becase they both suck ass.
Actually it's not the same as the federal Controlled Substances Act, but certain states DO place it on THEIR schedules...pretty retarded IMO, tramadol is actually a great pain reliever with little addiction potential, though it DEFINITELY has limits, it's only for mild-moderate pain.

They both suck, but I'd take the codeine and do a CWE on it.

So you say Tramadol is OTC is in most States? Hmm does anyone know if it's OTC here in Canada too then? I'd imagine so considering we can get 8mg codeine here OTC. Lol no I don't expect to go to the store and get fucked with my tolerance I just wanna try them just because.
Nah, it's not OTC, just unscheduled. Meaning you can't get charged with "possession of a controlled substance" if they find it ON you. You still can't buy it without a prescription (although you easily can online, and since it's not controlled, once you GET it, it's legal basically), and there might be some "possession of a prescription only drug" but i doubt it.
I wish it was OTC here, it works great for withdrawal since it's a weak opioid and serotonergic(sp) chemical. It really should be, but then again so should most things, even BESIDES the fact that drugs should be (mostly) legal. Not OTC in canada either as far as i know,
and it's pretty much unheard of to make scheduling/drug availability MORE lax. it's either make it more strict, or don't change it. for instance, do I think anyone any time soon is going to push to make codeine OTC in the US again?(i'm not referring to anybody specifically, just ranting). Of course not, probably 90% of people don't even care, and 5% would be against it. maybe half of the 90% would vote for/against it, so it wouldn't go anywhere. oh well, that's just my rant, the whole rule that anything over the counter can't be "good" just pisses me off.

Damn! Thanks for clearing that up for me Indy I never thought of that before, but it's so obvious. This whole time I kept thinking that OTC and unscheduled is the same thing :p.

I'd throw out the tramadol and codeine, and shoot the fig newton. Honestly, tramadol is a lifesaver when I'm in WD. I wouldn't take it recreationally, though. I WOULD take codeine recreationally. 400mg of codeine would equal 30mg hydrocodone, considering a 50% cross-tolerance. Unfortunately, 400mg codeine is right at the ceiling, so taking more than that would do nothing. There's a possibility of getting a buzz, and personally it lasts longer.

Hey y'all I'm from Kentucky and let me just say, " As of December 5th, 2008, Kentucky has classified Tramadol as a C-IV controlled substance." Would wikipedia lie?

Looks like it's true - but if you're getting it from a doc with a valid DEA license, they should still be able to write it to you. If you order it online and you live in Kentucky though, you will probably be out of luck soon. (If not already)

A lot of OP's quit shipping to KY back in 2006. During the summer of 2006 there was this huge news story in Lexington about how a lot of people got their packages seized by FedEx, mainly benzos I would think. I know this because when I got out of the clinic that fall I had thought about ordering benzos from an OP, and the ones people were suggesting would no longer ship to KY.
Not sure about Trams, although I'd say that's probably gone now too if they scheduled it. You'd probably still be able to get Soma I guess. Other than those, what's the point of an OP? This doesn't apply for an IOP though. I'd say you'd still be able to have stuff "imported." I mean, customs won't be able to seize all the packages.

Thanks dharma. So he wasn't bullshitting. He still gave it to me but gave me less this time. I use it for when I'm out of Norco. I love it and hate it. Somedays I feel alright on it, other days it just feels like a dirty chemical in my body making me feel weird. But...I'd rather have it then be dope sick. I'm still able to function fine on Tram. Sometimes I think they made Tram just for junkie comfort.
