Wow, looks like vacations to Cancun are gonna take on a whole new meaning. It does say that it is doubtful that authorities will look the other way if drugs are used openly, so it won't be like Amsterdam (which is an amazing city in a very cool country--I advise everyone to go there at least once).

Those corrupt Mexican cops aren't gonna give up that bribe money, no way, no how!

Looks like it's gonna pass, regardless....

It certainly sounds like a step in the right direction, but for one thing the quantities allowed for personal use seem absurdly low to me...1/2 gram of coke or 25mg of H are less than what most people would buy for a night of personal use. Also it doesn't sound like there will be an Amsterdam style policy of looking the other way regarding those supplying the drugs, so everything will remain black market...but it was a good news story to read when I woke up this morning nevertheless.

Wouldn't be surprised if some just stuck around after vacation was over.

Interesting concept though. Seems to me the cops have a built-in bribe system installed. As already said, most will have more than that. Gives the cops some "negotiating room" no?

Of course everyone knows the line if anyone does meet the policia?

"Can I can go ahead and pay my fine now?"

What an incredible step in the right direction! This war on drugs is a war on personal freedoms and private enjoyment. Hopefully, the domino effect will ensue.

I'm just hoping the rest of the world can see the precedence here, and follow suite, at least to a small degree. This is a bold move, regardless of the small quantities, and I applaud them for trying.

Here's to hoping it catches on!

I feel the quantities allowed are ridiculously small, however.

Possession of up to 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of marijuana, 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of opium, 25 milligrams (0.0009 ounces) of heroin and 500 milligrams (0.018 ounces) of cocaine.

Leave the rest at home;) .

Would that mean that you could have a little party bag with a little bit of each in it. Hell they could just sell these little variety gift baskets to us as we cross the border. Aaaaaaaareeeeeebaaaah:D
