I hope this not too stupid a thread! But....
I have been on Methadone for chronic pain for 4 years or so. I like it due to the lack of side effects. Lately though, I have noticed that I am sweating allot more than usual. I only sweat, normally, from methadone if I get low on medication. But that has not been the case. Another thing that is weird, is that its only my head that is sweating. No other area on my body is sweating except MY FRICKIN HEAD! The rest of my body can be cold, but my head is pouring sweat, making my hair wet and running into my eyes. It is frustrating, to say the least.
Anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Will it go away or is it tied to my dosage?

Yeah, the head sweats. I lived in hot places and was always soaked. But why you have it now after 4 years, dunno. You been in a different environment or something? Different meds? Anything different?

Well, I certainly regret that there are others that have had to experience this, but thank God I am not the only one! I thought I was losing my mind!
Coddfish: no environmental changes, medicine is the same, and to my knowledge, nothing has changed. I know it is weird, but I swear I can't put my finger on why it has started--now, of all times. I cannot remember when exactly it started happening, but it has probablly been a couple of months now.
Well, at least it won't kill me! :D

Sweating is a side-effect of Methadone and your not alone. While the exact mechanism of sweating on Methadone is unknown, there is a drug that researchers believe may help decrease the sweating in Methadone patients.
Biperiden an anticholinergic drug used to treat Parkinson disease has been used to treat the sweating caused by Methadone. It's effects are on cholinergic receptors and this may be effective for sweating by regulating temperature which would decrease amount of sweating.
I am not that familiar with the drug, but if the sweating is out of control and causing interference in your daily activities, I might ask my doc about medications to help.

Candy, that is very interesting! I would like to know more about that for sure. It does sort of interfere at times with my daily routine. Half the time I look like I just come in from the rain! It sucks!
malefiacrum, that was hilarious. Shave my hair off and use a roll on! HaHa!

Sweating is definately a side-effect of Methadone.
It could be something unrelated to the Methadone as well. And I added this just for your info.
There is something called Hyperhidosis(excessive sweating) and is caused by overstimulation in the autonomic nervous system that regulates sweating. It is most commonly seen on the palms of the hands, bottoms of the feet, and actually just the head! There are treatments available.
Thyroid problems can also cause sweating in certain areas.
Just some things to think about!
Did this start with the taking of the Methadone? What makes it worse or better? Has your Nethadone dose increased and has this caused the sweating to get worse.
I can imagine it can be pretty imbarrassing and frustrating. Do you get flushed(red in the face) as well that you have noticed? Do you notice it at more times than others and do you sweat like this while sleeping or wake up at night sweating on the face?
Let me know if I can be anymore help.

Yeah,
that's unbelieveable but true... I know that and have similar experiences -- and I have long hair... Strange but true; I could live with that, though it's not very attractive

Don"t all opiates make you sweat and get flush in the face?
I have found they do with me...

After I'd been on the OC for about a year for pain management, I noticed increasing problems with sweating and also with just regulating my body temperature in general....not even counting the times when I was in w/d's, etc...
I had to get a couple of good breathable cotton blankets cause the temperature roller coaster when I'd sleep was out of control....my dosages are being tapered off now and I don't really notice the sweating so much, but I still have problems with changes in the ambient temperature and/or humidity if those changes are rapid...

I think it must be related to higher dosages. I did not notice it much until I went over 80mg a day. It has just gotten worse ever since, and seems to be consistent with the dose increases. I agree, I have always sweated to a degree with opiates, but not to the point that I do now.
