So, I was scripted Zanaflex a month ago and took 4 mgs for a couple days and decided I did not like it and had NO recreational value . I proceeded at my next Doc Appt to ask for something different and yea..... 60 Soma :p ! I took the bottle of Zany in to the office and was going to give them to Doc but apparently he even thinks they suck balls ;) . So, I kept them cause I am a Drug Pack Rat and put them with all the other useless bottles of antiscycotics , SSRI's and Trazadone that I have kept over the years . So, to make a long story short I decided to try 2mgs of Zanyflex w/ my sleep meds and viola slept great and this part is what got my attention .... I , for the first time in a year , did not wake up in WD's from my Opiate Habit..... WTF ? So, I am gonna try it again to find if its the Zany that did it or some other variable . Anybody else have any luck with Zany helping with WD's ? I will let you know how it goes tomorrow .

Heya! Most def let us know. That is interesting. I have a limited knowledge about the workings of those drugs. Maybe someone like rescorcinol (sorry if I butchered the spelling) can help us out?

I'm off to research. I'm interested in this.

never heard such a thing but hey....never question a good thing. Just be nice to the good thing and maybe the good thing will keep being nice to you.

I agree with you that zanaflex is worthless as far as recreational use goes, but definitely hold onto them. They work very well for helping to alleviate WD symptoms. Tizanidine is related to clonidine - which is a medication that doctors often prescribe to people suffering from opiate WD's. You would be amazed at how much clonidine/tizanidine can help to alleviate WD symptoms. It is not magic of course, but it will help. In my experience it is one of the better "helper" meds that you can take when in WD's.

Do a search for zanaflex and tizanidine here. I know I've mentioned it in a few threads before. There was one thread recently where Resorcinol was talking about clonidine and atenolol if I remember right.

hmm clonidine never helped my wd symptoms but a doctor told me i wasnt taking enough. i was taking double what i was skripted tho. he said he could give me enough in a hospital setting to where i wouldnt be able to move and that would alleviate symptoms...i said no thanx, ill take the bupe thank you very much.

Well if you can't move, you can't articulate symptoms, so then they must not exist.

I definitely would've made the same choice!!! :D

I don't think that I would want any doc giving me enough clonidine that I was unable to move.

HERE (http://forum.opiophile.org/showthread.php?t=19407&highlight=tizanidine) is the thread that I mentioned earlier started by Resorcinol. It talks about how clonidine, tizanidine, and propranolol could help alleviate some WD symptoms like elevated heart rate, RLS, goosebumps, and hot/cold flashes. In some people, it can also help them get a little bit of sleep.

That's what I thought reading it too.

Hey , Thanks Guys and Gals for the reply's !

So, I tried the Zanaflex again at a smaller dose 1mg and was woken up early [damn phone] so I would not have been in WDs at that time . need about 8 hours to be in WDs and tell if its working . I will keep playin around with it and report back if it works again , but , i definately don't like the other side effects ie; ...........blurry vision... is the worst, cause I have only one good eye and it makes it even worse :( . Oh, and thanks for the link Tea Time.... good stuff !

clonidine was never much help for me, although its the only thing that can provide sleep for me during a really bad trip (3+ days no sleep, no help from benzos), although if you take too much, the rebound blood pressure makes you nearly pass out from every movement.

No problem! It seems that clonidine/tizanidine help some people but for others it is not much help at all. I guess it is one of those things that you must figure out by trial and error.

It may not do much to prevent WD symptoms, but at the very least hang on to it in case you get stuck with WD's.

Take care,

TT

never used it - glad it helped you get some sleep. I had a clonidine patch - but it didn't do shit for me.. I've found tramadol to be a god send when I'm in oxymorphone withdrawal... but I take wicked high doses that should cause me to have a seizure - not a good idea.

Clonidine has always *helped* me - I tend to take small doses though, it's a blood pressure med (acting on the hypothalamus which flips out in wd) and too much makes me feel really bad, but it does help w/ anxiety and heart rate/BP etc.. Used it many times in many detoxes and I've also had it in jail - WAY better than nothing.

Zanaflex KNOCKS ME OUT. By far the most potent "muscle relaxer" I've ever had, and it potentiates almost as well as benzos, IME..

Good for kicking eh? Ima look into this..
