OK so i acquire a bottle of Mytussin AC and i want a buzz off the codeine. My dose of hydrocodone lately has been 35-40mg's. How much codeine would give me a buzz. I know it depends on the individual, UTMFSE, use narcotic converter, etc....

But when i use the global..... converter, it asks for cross tolerance between each opi. So my question is what is the cross tolerance between codeine and hydrocodone.

PS: Don't say codeine is too weak. I have a small habit/tolerance(right now), and think enough codeine will get me off.

And what is the usual recommended dose for guaifenesin? I've read on here that its not really toxic when you take more than recommended but i can't even find how much the normal dose is.

Wiki codeine. there is a limit to how much yer codeine you can metabolize, like 400 mg a day or something. sorry i can't help more.

this is from wiki:A dose of approximately 200 mg (oral) of codeine must be administered to give analgesia approximately equivalent to 30 mg (oral) of morphine (Rossi, 2004). However, codeine is generally not used in single doses of greater than 60 mg (and no more than 240 mg in 24 hours)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codeine#cite_note-4). When analgesia beyond this is required, stronger opioids such as hydrocodone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocodone) or oxycodone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycodone) are favored. Because codeine needs to be metabolized to an active form, there is a ceiling effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceiling_effect) around 400-450 mg. This low ceiling further contributes to codeine being less addictive than the other opiates.

Cross tolerance means that because your tolerant to one, when you switch, because you've not build up a tolerance to the new drug, it will take less.

So on the Narcotic Dosage Converter, http://www.globalrph.com/narcotic.cgi
35 mg hydrocodone = 233.33 mg oral codeine
40 mg hydrocodone = 266.67 mg oral codeine

If allowing for 50% cross tolerance, then
35 mg hydrocodone = 116.67 mg oral codeine
40 mg hydrocodone = 133.33 mg oral codeine

Personally, for the sake of accurate conversion rates. I would completely ignore the cross tolerance reduction. Although when ever you switch over to a new opiate it's always a good idea to take half the expected result, because the cross tolerance issue could make that dose seem twice as strong, or you could have a bad reaction to it. But if you tolerate the dose well, then just stick to the standard convertion rates, without worrrying about cross tolerance.

Besides, the conversion is a good guide, but everyone responds to opiates differently, so you have to take it easy when you change to make sure you don't take too much accidentally and have a bad time from it.

400 mg is the right number, but that is the amount that can be metabolised at once.

You could theoretically take 400 mg, then as it's half life ticks down, consume another 400 mg and achieve 'better' effects.

I'm kinda talking out my ass here...this is something I'm half-remembering off the top of my head, and I think I'll leave this to the real chemists and 'pharmacists' of the O-Phile.

Ah, it's fucking codeine anyway - not worth the trouble, IMO. Unless anybody really enjoys that histamine release :)
