Hi guys, it's been awhile since I've been online here. I had mono this summer and am just getting over it.

Anyway, something weird just happened today while shooting and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything?

I put the needle in (elbow joint, normal left side vein) You know, where you get blood taken and all. I suddenly felt a sharp, almost electric pain in mt thumb and finger. Every time I moved the spike a bit, it was like a static shock around there. I'm wondering if I hit a nerve or something? I ended up switching veins and hit a different one no sweat, but it was weird.

I'm just wondering if it's a prelude to a collapse, or nerve damage or something? I guess I'll avoid that arm for now but man it was wacky.

Maybe one of you might know.

It's good to be back

Yeah,I've had this a few times over the years and was told by older junkies and believe that you've hit or are near a nerve.Just change IV sites and for god's sake don't push the plunger in,when you feel this, even if you're in the vein because, trust me,it really hurts.

This doesn't collapse or kill veins and isn't an artery-that's a different kinda pain.

Nick is right, you hit a nerve and as he said, never push.
You had Mono this summer? Usually it is worse in young teens and not as bad in adults. I had it at 14 and was sick for a month, it sucked!

So, now that you have had Mono, your immune system is not as strong as it should be, but it will be better soon.
So, in saying that, I would take very clean precautions when injecting.
I mean, washing your hands, using a new clean needle, clean the site your going to inject well with alcohol or wash it well with warm water and soap.
And clean your cooker...If you use a spoon, wash it(I know many don;t)and make sure it is clean. If you use cookers you get from Needle X-Change, use a clean one that has not been used and get rid of old cotton and use a new one with every injection.
Mono wipes your immune system of the good cells it needs to fight infections, so right now, you need to be extra careful.
Sorry, if I sound as if I am lecturing........But, I am!!!!! And I do it because I care about getting out the info you and others need to stay well and alive!

OK, so now go and do your thing, but remember what I said....Candy
