I know this is not a political board but I had to set the record straight on one thing (of many) McCain said in the debate that is taking place tonight. I need to rant and I need to clarify something about corporate taxes that a some of you might find interesting. If not there is always the delete option you know.

.... and John McCain's constant "smirk" on his face during the debae: wipe it off. It is disrepectful. And stupid looking.

Anyway, Sen. McCain said that we must, and he would, REDUCE corporate tax rates since, "at 35%, they are among "the highest in the world". His statement about the rates is true. But please let me give you the rest of that story.

Here is the truth: even though the USA does have "high" corporate tax rates, our actual tax REVENUE COLLECTIONS from corporations is the FOURTH LOWEST in the entire developed world. The FOURTH LOWEST. That is the truth. THAT PART Senator McCain conveniently left out. Maybe he should check that well-accepted statistic with his running mate. Maybe she's read a magazine or a newspaper since the last time she was interviewed. And these "Joe Sixpack" references are insulting - could it at least be Joe pillhead? or Joe banger? Or Joe Plugger?

I know what I am talking about I actually TEACH corporate tax at a major business school at a major university. Yeah, yeah, I know. Please don't think I've sold my soul to the devil capitalist. It pays the bills. I'm just a lecturer not a tenured professor.

I TEACH students all about the special deductions, tax credits, incentives, etc. that take a corporation's taxable income and reduce it - in many cases - to ZERO. That is right - a big fat GOOSE EGG. I can't do that with my taxes! And guess what? If it helps education, health care and programs to help those down on their luck, I am happy to kick in my share of taxes. Blessed to have a job where I PAY taxes.

Bottom line on corporate taxes:
The RATE does not matter when you can reduce your taxable income to zero, now does it? SIMPLE MATH 35% times 0 = 0. 0 tax liability. And what I just told you is a proven, accepted statistic: USA has high tax rates. However, for LARGE corporations (not so much for small business or most individuals) there are deductions and credits available that reduce TAXABLE income to zero, or close to it, even if a company is acually profitable.

Whatever your politics I truly respect anyone who can debate on the ISSUES. Not half-truths, character attacks on both sides, please talk about the ISSUES that are killing our country.

First let me say that I don't really keep up with politics. I hear stuff here and there, but I don't follow it. I don't like politics. But, I was under the impression, and this is just what I've heard several times, that Obama is against raising taxes on families that earn something like less than $200,000 or is it $250,000. Anyway, if he's against taxing people who make LESS than that, then how is that raising taxes on the middle class? I mean, I don't know what you consider middle class, but I don't consider someone making 200K or 250K middle class. Maybe "upper" middle class, but not certainly the "traditional" middle class? So, what's wrong with that? The only way I can see someone being against that would be if they make more than that amount.

I guess it depends on what's your definition of middle class. I mean, everyone tends to have there own. But, personally, I wouldn't call someone making 200 / 250K the traditional middle class. I'd say middle class is more like 30-100K.

My mom LOVES People magazine, and gets a yearly subscription. Anyway, a month or so ago they did this big article on McCain and his family, and in the pictures they showed their adopted daughter, and she's from some Asian country. Anyway, in ALL the pictures, she's ALWAYS kneeling on the fucking floor. I just kept thinking to myself, all of you white people are sitting down in chairs or standing, and you're making this girl kneel? Get the bitch a chair! I'm sure it wasn't the intent, but it kept making me think of racism or something. And also, you fuckers have a TON of money. Fix your adopted daughter's teeth! Your white kids look like fucking Barbie and Ken dolls, and then you have this kneeling Asian daughter with snaggle teeth. I mean, it made me think she was stuck at home in some sweatshop or something, like she was a "second-class" child, sort of like you sometimes hear in Chinese family, daughter number one, most honored son, etc. Take the girl to the dentist!

And they also talked about Cindy's addiction to painkillers. And, I'm sure it wasn't meant this way, but the way they phrased it, it came off as though John was really harsh on her. It said something about her going to another one of their homes to "recover" from her addiction, and she wouldn't come back until she was "fixed." First of all, I kept thinking that he made her leave and be by herself to "recover," when a situation like that is a time when you really do need family support, and secondly the term "fixed" to describe addiction scared me. I mean, do we want a president who think addiction can be magically cured? It's a struggle and a lifelong process if anything. Even if you get sober, I don't think you're ever "fixed." But, I don't think it was actually intended like that, but the way the article was phrased / worded it made me think of those things.

But damn, take your daughter to the orthodontist.
