Swim has had an rx for dexmethylphenidate 5 mg extendedrelease a day (delivers one 2.5 mg dose immediately and delivers another 2.5 mg dose after four hours have elapsed). It's supposed to be equivalent to taking one 2.5 mg IR tablet twice a day.
Dexmethylphenidate is two times the potency of racemic methylphenidate (Ritalin) because levomethylphenidate is almost completely lacking CNS activity. Note the almost though.... it probably does have some NDRI properties, but the NDRI properties of levo-MPH have been judged insiginficant (many many times weaker than the dextro isomer, don't remember exact #s). Also, for all routes of administration besides transdermal, l-mph has been shown to have an extremely poor bio avaliability (less than 10%). These factors combined make it fair to say that in general, Dexmethylphenidate is 2x the strength of methylphenidate. However, the small amount of levomethylphenidate that is abosrbed from ritalin's racemic mixture causes enough undesirable peripheral effects (of the ephedrine type albiet milder), to not only make dexMPH stronger, but to also make it cleaner. Keeping L-MPH out of the picture mitigates some of the unpleasant twacked out feeling and body load that people hate about Ritalin. So in a nutshell dexmethylphenidate is 2x as potent as methylphenidate, an has less of a body load for a given amount of CNS stimulation.
SWIM rarely abuses stimulants but felt adventuruous tonight, so the contents of two 5 mg dex-MPH capsules (beads) were dumped out and crushed with a lighter. The powder was made finer with a credit card and made into for lines. Each nostril got too lines.
The resutls from snorting 10 mg dexmethylphenidate were mild euphoria that came on over 5 to 15 mintues, an increase in focus and alertness, and just a general feeling of well being. No rush at 10 mg insuffulated (equivalent to 20 mg methylphenidate insuffulated). More was definitely felt than if the crushed powder had simply been consumed orally. No anxiety is noted, but 1 mg of clonazepam was also taken about an hour previously.
Dex-MPH is a worthwhile substance, I'd say on par with adderall as far as mg dose needed for euphoria (although adderall will last longer for sure). Orally, adderall would win mg for mg because dex-MPH has a poor oral bioavaliability.
20 mg of dex-MPH insuffulated looks to be the minimum dosage for an initial rush and strong euphoria in a person with little stimulant tolerance.
