I know this question as been asked a number of times so if you don't like repetition, DON'T READ.
SWIM was on 50 mg on Methadone on and off for 6 months. Was recently prescribed OC 20s. How long after quitting the methadone until this person can feel the effect of the OCs. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. THanks in advance.

Yep: tolerance is weird, and personal...hell, I've been off all opiates for a while, where I'll feel a couple of vicodin again, when I wouldn't cross the street for a handful of oxys this last year...the real problem, for me, isn't so much that I won't feel them, but that I immediatelly need a whole lot more of them the next day...and the next, to get that same elusive feeling...Real quickly, once my bod knows there are more drugs in the pill bottle, I'll eat'em all...maybe not day one...or day two...but my tolerance increases daily, unlike normal people, who could probably do one of those oxys a day for months, and call it good....so only you know, both what works...and how much self-control you have...many of us get on methadone maintenance not because we can't get docs to perscribe: hell I had docs perscribing me morphine, norco, and methadone pills...but no matter *how* many the perscribed: they never lasted the whole month....same thing years ago with dialudids: after five years off dope, a doc started prescribing me K2 dilaudids, and at first, I was like in heaven, thought *finally*, like I'd hit the lottery, just about wept about it...
Until day two, when all of a sudden, waiting all day for that second dilaudid didn't seem all that great...and then day three where I decided that they'd work better if I fixed one...and that afternoon, when I decided that I'd do a couple xtra that afternoon, and then cut down towards the end of the month...and all the junky games began, one more fucking time....within less than a month I'd lost everything, and was running around Columbus OH with a pistol....
We can't win
We can't break even
We can't get out of the game...

If you take a break for a few days after your last Methadone dose, you should be able to feel all the joy of Oxycodone.
But I have to say this. Methadone isn't the opioid blocking agent, it is not an antagonist.
It's just very strong opioid agonist, and when you take 50mg or more, you'll need eaither at least 90% pure Heroin, or an equivalent or stronger dose of any other opioid if you wanna feel that other opioid, that's all.
It would be same with all opioids.
If you would take 200mg of OxyContin, and then after a few hours take 60mg of Morphine, you wouldn't feel anything, because you have a blocking effect from Oxycodone, I mean, your dose of 200mg of Oxycodone is much more stronger than a dose of 60mg of Morphine, that's all.
The same trick is happening with Methadone. At 50mg and above, it so much occupies your opioid receptors, that if you take something weaker, you won't feel it. Or you will feel it, but only slightly, depends on the strength of what yer taking.
But if that what yer taking is equal or stronger than your dose of Methadone, then you'll get a buzz.

Thanks for the good replys. Is there an exchange rate on the amount of OC i should take in order to over come the Methadone 50mgs? Thanks in advance!

Shieeet, I'm on 95 mg of 'done and I'll still feel 2 20s for sure. Then again everyone's blockin level is different. I think people overstress the blockin effects of 'done. The again I'm not a doctor what would I know.

How about using the search engine rather than telling people not to read the thread!!
The truth is there is no right answer to the question, everyone's body is different. Everyone metabolizes different and has a different amount of receptors. It also depends on the amount of time you have been off the Methadone, how many OCs you plan on taking per dose. I can assure you that after being on 50mg of Methadone for 6 months, your tolerance is above feeling 1 OC 20, that's a fact. The analgesic equivalent of 50mg of Methadone daily is 125mg of Oxycodone daily, remember that's the analgesic equivalent, the amount needed to "feel" the Oxycodone will likely be higher.
