With small veins in hard to reach areas, you could have very well been in then slipped out, usually if I'm hitting in my wrist or feet, I'll draw back(flag whatever, term you want to use aka make sure blood comes back) a few times, like once when I see I'm in then half way with the shot, to make sure I haven't slipped out or something, I've also noticed sometimes you can miss and it won't swell or anything but it will hurt, I would have her warm compress the area, take some asprin any OTC painkiller and if it keeps hurting for a longer then a week or so get help.

Did you filter real well ? Was the shot clear or cloudy ? Where did you get

^^^Good advice. Just keep having her use very warm (not hot hot) compresses to the area several times a day. She could take Aspirin or Ibuprofen to help with the pain and inflammation. Be on the look out for swelling, red streaks, lumps, extreme bruising or pain. If you notice any red streaks, you will need to have her go to the ER ASAP. If any swelling, pain, or lumps appear and do not go away with warm compresses or with 5-7 days, you should cosider going to the ER also.

the ankle had np swelling at ll, just the pain, id like to say her ankle barely hurts anymore, so that gives me hope. her wrist is puffy. not swollen like a sprain but just puffy skin. and hurts. no red streaks no lumps, no buringng, just pain when moving the wrist
thanks anyone slse wanna chime in pls do
Could just be the result of sticking a bit of metal in an area with many nerves, poor circulation and not much tissue. That or you've missed a little.
Keep a close eye on it and if in any doubt.........go to the er.

Yeah,if there's no swelling, discolouration or heat,it's probably not a miss. It's probably just a poor spot to IV.Sometimes it's easy to forget that IV involves sticking a metal spike into your flesh and that can obviously hurt.
In future, look for IV site away from major nerve clusters and with plenty of flesh.
Oh and look on the bright side.......I'm reduced to using my little finger and trust me,that REALLY hurts.

on the plus side that was her FIRST and ONLY time, she doesnt appear to have any desire to try again....btw is tap water bad?... imean i know the cotton filters... but its still just cotton... not to great of a filter eh?

I'd recommend micron filters, but they're expensive and kinda hard to find.I really suggest you ring that works exchange number I left in one of your threads, they might be able to tell you about a closer exchange.Even,if there isn't one, then try and make the journey. You could stock up and get advice and support.
I've used tap water when desperate, but it's not a good idea.If you're gonna use tap water, boil it well and then use it.

try to stay away from the wrist area as mush as possible - there are some clear bue-coloured veins that look they woule de easy to hi, but in actual fat they are very small, have thin wall and the preesure behind their flow is quite intense compared to bigger veins
there are some good veins on your wrists (on the sides of your writs) but they are rollers, so might be hard to get used to banging into them (you can feel them more thn you can see tyem)
feet/ankles are mush the same - there are veins (at the bottom of your wrists and hands) that look like they are very easy to hit,
but once you penetrate them, the veins swell up immediately in size and if you keep pushing the plunger anyway, it might hurt quite a bit, especially after the shot
there are some good veins alongside of your ankles though - they are almost invisible, but fel around just above your 'bulgy' foot bone (for lack of a better term) and they are there and pretty easy to hit (just like with those side-wrists veins - they are easier felt than seen - so don't be afraid to feel around. if you feel a pulse, though - DO NOT bang there - the pulse means thre is an artery in very close proximity and you really don't want to be banging into arteries, plus you basically lose your shot shoting into the artery - it distribtes your drug to the capilaries and only a very smal amount will get to the brain)
hit and miss for every beginner, basically - in the literal sense of the expression. with time, you will get to know which veins to avoid and which are good
also, always use a tourniquet (except for ankles/feet, obviously) but once you register see (dark) blood - release the tourniquet immediately - a lot of people tend to leave it on until they have their shot done, and that is very back practice - easiest way to get your veins to collapse - ESPECIALLY the smaller ones
take care of yourself and your better half

Ya like Nick said if you go with tap water Boil the crap out of it.
I also rinse everything down with alcohol 99% even the cotton.
Soak the cotton and squeeze it out and let it dry.
Other than that I cant think of anything just try to
keep everything STERILE.

most likely you broke some nerves and little blood vessels around the shot site
i am no dr/nurse/anyfuckingthing but its happened to me before
its not from missing its from the needle poking thru little tiny nerve endings
doesn't much hurt while you're pokin around, later it swells and hurts like a sumbitch
but yeah, whenever that happens to me it gets better by 2 days later
hope this helps?

really??? for reals????
i've never shot with anything but tap water (occasionally bottled water but not often)
and i never even had cotton fever or any real problems
i've had abcesses but for each one i've had
there is a stupid mistake that preceded it
for example, shooting meth with my hand shaking too hard for me to stay in the vein
or not waiting for a good register and banging when i see a tiny string of blood and can't draw up more
tap water has always worked fine for me

Yeah, for real.Just because you've been lucky doesn't mean others will. So,you promote best practice,it's technically known as harm reduction.
If I told folks to do some of things that I've done,I'd have corpses on my hands.

Also, tap water varies from city to city and state to state...to save money, a lot of counties quit filtering and processing their water like they used to. There are public health standards, but 20 years ago tap water used to be a lot better than what it is now...and simply pulling it through a cotton doesn't remove any water soluble contaminants...better safe than sorry.

Maybe you got good genes or maybe you pay more attention to what you are doing than you realize or than others do. Or maybe you are just real lucky. Well sort of.
OP, I think you should tell her, it always hurts like that. She will never do it again and all is good.
There are so many things going on, it is hard to keep track, veins have valves too and they get messed up, and then you do forget to undo the tie off, and this vein is looking like a small balloon under your skin and it's disconcerting and then theres artery's and nerves, in the wrist you could miss a little and numb out the nerves a little, but I guess you could irritate them too, and infections etc.
And that is just the beginning.
You should always approach it like it's an operating theater and any opportunity to have something more sterile should be taken advantage of. Buy some pure bottled drinking water. Alcohol swab everything.
In the end you have to remember some people have a real talent for feeling/finding hitting veins and for some people it's like trying to do something you will never be very good at except you are damaging yourself every time you make a mistake.

I got some sterile water for irrigation. I figure sterile water is sterile water,
right ? So it only cost like $ 3.50 for a quart and didn't need a script.
Got it a the grocery store pharm. I would give that a try.

i refuse to buy bottled water on gp
i will drink it if someone gives it to me but that's it
fuckin' bottled water, its been thru a filter, so what?
public water is filtered too
with that said, i guess i've just been lucky (?)
tap water was the norm, but i've shot up with my own drool and melted ice from a rum and coke
hell i shot up with water from a cloudy nasty rain puddle in the street
not once, not twice, but THREE SEPERATE TIMES
that was on the nights when i was homeless or just slummin/smoking crack outside all night
each time i didn't really "examine" the puddles until after i got right
and seen how nasty they really were
then i'm sittin there high as fuck just waiting for something bad to happen to the shot site
never had a problem, i guess i am weird
remember this is the bitch who shot 3g of dope a day and now takes 90mg/day of methadone
and has still never gone more than 36hrs without going "number two" hahahahaha
my body is odd
i just thought of something too......
all these folks who only bang up with "sterile water"
any of y'all shoot street dope (or coke or meth whatever)????
so the water is sterile, but your dope contains godknowswhat?
that's kinda.... ummmm, well, silly and pointless
who cares whats in the water? whats in your drugs man?
i'm not saying i knew exactly what was in my drugs, hell i never cared
but i'd think that if you're shooting street shit, "unsterile tap water" is the LEAST of yer concerns....
sorry to double post, this just popped into my head

i think it's just that, while you can't control what might be contaminating your dope, you can control any extra contaminants you add to it in the water. so it's not silly, it's reducing the possibilities of harm. i have heard before of tap water becoming contaminated (with lots of different things, including raw sewage), and residents being warned to boil their water before ANY use at all. it happens pretty regularly in a few communities around here, especially rural farming areas.

well if your city is on a boil-water warning then that's a different story
but if i can put my head down under the faucet and drink
then i can stick it in my bloodstream
west palm beach goes on a boil-water warning every 6months or so for about a week
big pain in the ass
