okay so the other week i met up with my friend who got a new heroin connection. now we always get good dope in boston but the tolerance builds up so quickly once you do it every day. so i just got back from vacation and a 4 day self detox on subutex and hadnt done anything in 8 days. so we get this new slamming dope and i have chronic back pain so i IM'd a lil bit of it just to take away the pain and i was shocked at how good it felt. than i did a quarter of a gram shot and was nodding out harder than ever. my friends had to wake me up a few times because they were scared. so i turn to my friend and pull out another half gram bag and say lets do a shotand i pour out most of it and then im like egh why even save this and dumped it all in. as im mixing it up i say to my friend go get the salt water (heard in rehab salt and water helps when you od if you inject it, which i have no idea how that works because you basically just made a salene solution). so anyways i say 2 or 3 times while im loading up the needles that i am gonna od and so i pull back the plunger and slam it. oh my god the rush was so fucking incredible. lastime for 3 or 4 minutes and the next thing i know i am outside on the front porch with 2 cops and 3 med people standing over me. my friends slapped me over and over and shoved ice cubes up my ass and down the front of my pants, shot me up with 2 shots of salt water, and dragged me down 3 flights of stairs and i did not wake up. they said my lips were completely blue, face pale as can be, and i wasnt breathing. i get to the hospital and they tell me i can go to sleep and within 30 seconds of closing my eyes they smack me and wake me up because i stopped breathing and im high so im so confused i was like you just told me to go to sleep why are you waking me up. then they tell me i can leave in 30 minutes and so i go to walk to the bathroom and stumbling all over the place. didnt think i was gonna reach the bathroom. and they send you home with a little note saying "you have just o.d'd on heroin" as if you werent going to remember in the morning. good stuff. i was a little upset my friends didnt take a picture of me dead. and i knew i was going to o.d and i still did it.

Thats really an odd story for me to understand because standard procedure for an overdose is a shot of Narcon which instantly takes you out of your high. Gets your lungs goin' and your heart rate back up. The last thing I would think they would tell someone who has od'ed is to go to sleep.Somethin's fishy here.
I could be wrong about the narcon thing maybe they dont do that where you live. Maybe its not common practice at all.

This post has totally done my head in!!! So I'm going to have a bit of a rant.
Firstly aren't u glad to be alive???? You don't seem to realize that u have had a near death experience. You are messing with hard drugs which need to be respected and treated as such.
Secondly you are lucky to have mates as good as you've got. Many (most??) junkies look after number one. Have u ever seen anyone OD? I suspect not!! Well I have unfortunately, (too many times) and watching a person go blue definitely doesn't get any easier with experience. Your mates were going through (probably) one of the most terrifying experiences of their lives, and you moan (joking or not) about them not taking a photo. If they had of done, who do u think would have wanted to see such a photo? Its hardly one for the family album is it? Not something most moms would be proud of. Picture it: Oh and heres little Jimmy (or whatever) ODing on heroin, or worse here's little Jimmy DEAD or DYING from a heroin OD.
Anyone who has been part of the heroin scene for any length of time will agree that u go to way more funerals, than weddings. Us junkies don't have a great life expectancy when we use responsibly let alone when we use recklessly like you were. If u knew u were going to go over why did u take more gear?? There is a point which u clearly need to recognize where u are not going to get any more wasted, that point when u r at best going to pass out (waste of money) and at worst die.......
I lost one of my best mates four years ago who OD'ed with the wrong people. (I truely believe that had the OD happened with other people who would have recognized the crisis then he would have lived to tell the tale) Unlike your mates the people he was with (who I suspect were young and totally inexperienced) freaked out and left him although to their credit they did manage to phone for an ambulance at some point after they had left. Not quick enough. He had been dead about an hour (estimated by coroner) when the paramedics got there.
Speed is of the essence at a time like this and many lives are lost because people fuck about with stupid (totally unproven and usually useless) home remedys such as injecting salt water (u said it your self, what good's saline going to do? incidently folk also recommend injecting saline as a remedy for a bad hit and its equally as useless) If your mom had a heart attack would u fuck about injecting her with saline? No you'd phone for the emergency services and an OD is a medical emergency requiring treatment by experts.
Also I should point out that people like u are a liability to those around them. You put your mates at risk. Had u have died then the police would have been looking for answers. A corpse in the Western world has that effect. Especially if there's a devastated family wanting to know why and due to the nature of a death from heroin overdose looking for someone to blame. It may surprise u to learn that (in the UK at least) had u died and not injected yourself (I've seen loads of users who can't hit themselves up) one of your mates could have been looking at a manslaughter charge. (unlikely but possible just the same)
Enough said. I think I've made my point clear.

Yeah, Narcan is the drug of choice with opiate overdose, should bring you right out and it should be repeated as it has a very short half life. One shot of Narcan is not always enough.
A salt injection is an old junkie myth and really has no benefit. It is either coincidence or some other mode that causes someone to wake up or come out of it, but there is no evidence that a salt injection brings you out of an overdose.
Sounds like you knew what you were doing and when one does, be prepared of the consequences. Your friends should of called 911 immediately and nixed the salt shot. And shoving ice cubes up your ass, while it may cool you down, your friends are only wasting time.
If your going to take such risks, I would come up with a plan if one of you should overdose again. Learn CPR and what to do to save someone's life.
If someone should stop breathing you should put them in the recovery position; Put them on their right side, left leg over the right to keep the body in this position. This prevents aspiration of any vomit. But, learning CPR may be the best thing you can do for your buddies and encourage them to do the same. I know it may seem like a waste of time for some, but hey it's better than a day at someone's funeral or putting your family and friend's through years of grief.
And hey I am not passing any criticism's. Been there myself and watched too many die needlessly. Just be a responsible junkie and enjoy yourself. There is nothing worse than an OD to ruin someone's day, whether it be you or someone else. While your friends were right to call for help, knowing the right things to do can save your life or someone you know! And CPR classes are cheap and some communities offer classes to the public for free. Go to your local fire station, they may have free classes going on there or will provide you with some info of who does. It's worth it and only takes half a day.

off topic RE: Candy's post about positioning an unconscious person:
when we have patients that are nauseated, etc.., we have them lie down "left lateral recumbent"...which just means lying on their left side. This serves two purposes: 1) if you're on your side instead of your back, you're less likely to aspirate into your lungs if you vomit 2) most people's anatomy is such that if you are on your left side at the appropriate angle, it actually closes off the top portion of your stomach and prevents stomach contents from passively travelling back up the esophagus
