Has anyone ever experienced a brain shiver? It's a weird feeling that I've been getting the last few days, almost like an electric shock that kind of washes over your head. Online it says that it's caused from anti-deppressant withdrawal, but I wonder if withdrawal from Ambien might cause it. I know it's not opiate withdrawal, because I just took a shot. These things kind of have me a little worried.

Funny, I was just explaining these to someone today - I call them "brain zaps" and I've heard others refer to them that way. I'd never experienced them until Zoloft wd ~6/7 years after I started shooting dope, now they're a side effect of just about any wd I experience, I suspect enough Internet wd would start the brain zaps.. It's a fucking annoying symptom..
Boy, it's a good thing SSRIs aren't addictive! They could cause like permanent changes in your brain chemistry and that could be bad!!
Fuck the FDA..

That's weird because I never felt them until I stopped taking Seroquel that was prescribed to me when I was a kid, and now I seem to feel them with ever WD too. I wonder if the Psych drugs somehow write this WD symptom into your brain so you feel it when you kick ANYTHING. That would be fucked up.

I took a high dose of paxil and expeirienced the same thing. Plus I couldn't ejaculate for a week straight no matter how hard I tried. I will never touch ssri's again creepy shit.

Definately experience 'Brain-shivers' while coming off of Effexor XR. Though people were trippin' when I heard about it (while contemplating dropping Effexor for Welbutrin) but when I tried to just quit...serious brain-shivers. Had to do about a 2-month taper which went well. Never experience them there shivers while doing anything 'fun' like Opiates, Coke, etc.

I've had the zaps from antidepressant withdrawal and a couple times when I was doing A lot of acid. Serotonin, what a strange chemical to be fuckin with all the time. I know for a fact I have permanent changes in me that were the result of my self-expirimentation over the years.
So Chester, are you serious about this or are you just a "Troll" as some people say? I was thinking maybe you are genuine, you're just a loose nut and people find you difficult to communicate with. What do you think? Are you "acting" dumb to stir things up, because you get a kick out of it?

Anything that messes with Seratonin (SSRI's, MDMA, etc.) anything that changes drastically will give you brain zaps.
I screwed around doing alot of pure MDMA, I was hanging out with the guy who had a ton of PURE MDMA that I was helping him cap-OFF into doses with a scale and we were eating those things all the fucking time, it was pretty insane. We took breaks and then decided we needed longer breaks.
On our last mini-binge we did it twice one weekend and twice the next weekend and they were pure MDMA capsules we made ourselves with between 150-200mg pure MDMA and afterwards the next day our brain was having that zap feeling all day up until early afternoon the next day. It was kind of scary but then it went away and it's been a long while and I had no brain damage and I've had an MRI of my brain not even too long ago and everything is completely normal.
Don't worry, just give it time.

How could a screen name like "Chester Mcenroe" NOT be a troll.. I smelled the bait before I read his first post..
No no no no, it's not withdrawal it's "Discontinuation syndrome" that makes you feel bad when you stop taking the drug, and goes away when you take it again, and develops over time taking the drug on a regular basis:rolleyes:!

i've had them before with benzo WD. wouldn't surprise me a bit that you'd have them from antidepressant "discontinuation."

And you are not addicted because you don't have *cravings* for SSRI type substances.
I have had the zaps on some SSRI types but I don't remember which. It was usually after I took it.
For a while. Then it went away for a while until I dosed again.
No doctor or anybody has a clue what longterm SSRI usage may or may not cause or effect.
Eventually, when there is comprehensive long term (twenty year plus) data.....
Just saying. If it really works for you then it's probably worth taking.

Actually it could be a number of things, i have epilepsy and get the brain shivers daily but i also see a pattern with people on ssrii's that are coming off of them get the same thing, if i were you i would definelty discuss this with my doctor as this is a scary thing to experience...

Yeah, I need to get a doctor. I don't have medical insurance but there's a few things that I need to get checked out that I havn't been able to, like my back and stuff.
Off topic, don't you hate that feeling you get right when your high peaks and you realize you don't have anymore? That's like the worst feeling ever.

Chester, interesting that you bring this topic up, as I was thinking of posting the same thing. I have been in a 3 week wean off the antidepressant Cymbalta, which similar to Effexor has a nasty rep for causing "brain zaps/shivers" during withdrawal. I experience it as a nasty little version of severe dizziness/vertigo when I turn my head. It's as if my eyes don't keep up with my head turning. It can get so severe that it is hard for me to drive.
I attempted weaning off Cymbalta 6 months ago, and got down to 30 mg and the brain shivers/zaps were so severe I had to stop. Well, a month ago, my shrink said I have to come off the Cymbalta b/c it's not working well enough, and I need a new drug, but I can't start it until I'm off the Cymbalta. He increased my Suboxone from 4 to 8 mg/day to help with my depression & the wean, and I can't tell if it helps or not. Yesterday I took my last dose of 10 mg Cymbalta (did 5 days of 10 mg)and I am so fucking dizzy this morning I'm turning green.
I AM VERY CURIOUS TO HEAR FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE WEANED OFF CYMBALTA OR EFFEXOR, HOW LONG DID YOU HAVE W/D SYMPTOMS - HOW LONG DID YOU HAVE THE BRAIN ZAPS? In addition, did anything help?
Chester, I hope you figure out what's causing yours.

Funny. Ive been tapering my Zoloft dosage for about two months now. I was at 150 and have gotten down to 75 without any 'discontinuation syndrome' but i know the zaps you speak of as i tried to CT off of them earlier this year. I fucking hate the way they make me feel. I would rather be miserable than to feel this flatness and nothing all the time. no sadness, no. But no joy, either. I'm gonna taper and take my chances, besides the suboxone helps mucho with the depression.
Ok y'all I'm gonna go have a nicotine delivery device.

I think there are many drugs that do this and all the input everyone has given has valid points to it. Ive recently been getting them to when i lye down and try to go to sleep. Then when I stand up and walk around they go away. I think it was from taking too much zanaflex.

Common Internet Misconception (#69): Internet trolls are ugly creatures that live under bridges, talk shit and eat children - not true!!
Don't think of a troll as "who's that tapping on my bridge?", think of a troll as "Hmmm.. what do we have for BAIT today and what kinda FISH do we wanna catch?", cut the motor back and let's start spewing out chum and see what happens..

Having very bad day in terms of vertigo and nausea from the Cymbalta wean. Oddly enough I admitted a person last nite to my psych unit who stopped the Cymbalta cold turkey 3 weeks ago and she had no problems at all with stopping it like that. Makes me feel like a pansy. On the other hand, s/he was admitted to the funny farm all suicidal so maybe I should quit complaining about my poor feeble dizzy pulefest self.
Took 10 mg Cymbalta this am b/c I'm so dizzy I can hardly function. Fuckin' drug.

Spewin' chum, love it! Is that what is contained within a "bit bucket"? And if the chum is still chummy, who's the fish and who's the bait?
Just sTrollin around, nothin' better to do on a rainy day than drag up old fucking threads anyway.
IRL misconception #69...I don't go away easy, only I can BANN myself! ahaha!!!
Like my anti-hero Sidney says...
And now the end is near,
and so I face the final curtain.
I've lived a life that's full,
something something...
I DID IT MY WAY!
It's the younger generation, one in particular, I fear for. Myself, higher, further, forever!
Fucking conundrums...
Anyway back to fishing, I wish I had some fucking money cuz I could go for a motherfucking nice deep fried Maine haddock dinner and some lobster right the fuck now! The west may be the best but the northeast seafood kicks ass!

if Chops was REALLY banned, it would probably say opionomo.
Methinks he put it there himself (as a user title).
Am I right??? Or isn't Chops telling?
