Hiya, Ophiles
The time has come, Hallelujah, Praise Jebus, AlHamduliLah, I can apply for expungement of my second degree felony record.
I pled guilty to one count: making a fraudulent narcotic report.
My question is, for those who have gotten their records expunged, or know of someone who has:
Did you use a lawyer, or did you do the process yourself?
The process sounds do-able but a pain in the ass. I'm guessing using an attorney would be lots easier and faster.
Very curious for any suggestions from those who know:p.

I had my record expunged, but I was a minor at the time so it was probably different. I just had to complete everything the courts had me do(fines, community service, probation, classes etc,) and once it was all done it got expunged.
It might work differently though once you become an adult.

Yeah, it's different md1 - I had to wait 8 years AFTER I finished probation, had to not get arrested for anything else during that 8 yrs. Now there's a bunch of forms & different courts & officies to get & get signatures & stuff.

one point- it's not called "expungement" it's "restoration of civil rights"
once you have a felony on your record (as an adult) it's there for good
but you can get all your rights back like voting and whatever els

Its a hell of a task. I had to do it myself because the process didn't happen like it was supposed to.
I had to contact the probation officer who is head of whatever for expungements. Get her to sign a piece of paper then get the clerk of court or somebody for my judge and get the judge to sign off on it. Then I had to contact NCIC myself and send a fax of the necessary paper.
I paid to get my criminal record twice just to make sure mine didn't show up. Well worth the money. I was never convicted because of first offenders law and even my arrest is off of the rap sheet.

I used a lawyer to get my record expunged but I didn't have any felony convictions. Cost me $1000 but it was worth it IMO. What the hell is "making a fraudulent narcotic report"?

While I was working in a hospital I stole drugs from the computerized drug dispensing system. I had it worked out carefully so I wasn't depriving patients of drugs they needed. Anyway, because I was recording that i gave the drugs to a patient it was a fraudulent narcotic report. A second degree felony - each pill and each vial was a separate felony! Luckily I was allowed to plead guilty to only one count.
Thanks for your reply BN - I have an appt with an attorney on Thursday.
