I can "taste" some drugs when given IV. I forget what I got in the ER many years ago but it tasted like tinfoil after administration. My question is: Where can I find an article on taste perversion following IV injection? (opiate or non-opiate IV). I looked for about ten minutes on WWW and about one min on search engine here but couldn't find anything good. Feel free to post personal stories if you want but I'd moreso like to find something other than "taste perversion" as list of side effects from IV admin. I'd like to see more than four words on the subject if any of you creeps have run across an article or something....

Thanks:)

I'm not sure if it's taste perversion.I always presumed it was the taste of the drug and have heard some reasonable explanations to support the theory.

Toradol gives me a nasty taste. Had my mom hit me with some last week when my kidney was killing me.

so i guess taste perversion is considered a more long term side effect as opposed to just tasting the drug immediately after IV? Someone very close to myself have used topiramate to get off alcohol and it ruined the taste of soda and NOn alcoholic brews. still cant find IV drug taste if thats a better description thnks nick

edit... i know tongue is very vascular jsut by looking at the bottom of it in mirror so maybe just microgram levels in blood in tongue could be it????

The most common disorder of taste associated with drugs, other than actual taste loss, is "metallic taste." Metallic taste is more clearly specified and described with regard to the onset of symptoms. Anosmia (http://www.medlink.com/cip.asp?UID=MLG0001N) may be associated with weight loss due to a decrease in appetite, which results from a loss of perception of the flavor of food. Although the patient may offer complaints only regarding a disturbance of smell or taste, careful questioning may reveal other drug-induced disturbances and symptoms of other diseases that may be responsible for the disturbances of smell and taste.

I'd imagine you got that taste because you where sick from something in the hospital.?

sounds familiar....while my mom was having her 4 chemo treatments (when we found she had breat cancer), the chemo constantly always made everything taste metallic to her and always left a bad taste in her mouth....she didnt eat near as much then due to loss of appititite due to the bad taste. im just so glad she got thru it all and is finished with it. not to mention is in remission....:)

Yeah I get a metallic taste from taking the drug Lunesta. It's the number one ranked side effect from the drug, and it is fucking awful. I was pushed to take Lunesta by and overzealous doctor back when it first came out and the pharm reps were pimping it hard to the industry, this was years ago when I was definitely too young to be taking it anyways, and taking it orally as directed I would wake up the next day with the most horrible taste ever in my mouth. It literally tasted horrible, like a metallic-y bloodlike taste. Nothing would get rid of it, it even made water taste awful like there were chemicals in it. I stopped taking that shit really quick.

I also find that I get a taste whenever I do a shot of heroin. This is especially more prevalent with a really fat shot of some good tar, and it's also magnified if I'm doing a shot for the first time in about a day or so, when I'm starting to get pretty sick (nose runny as fuck...dripping down into the back of my throat, malaise, anxiety, stomach rumbling, aches & pains - the part of withdrawal I hate worst actually!) and then it hits me like a beautiful freight train making me feel great again. Like others I have read about on here, I also feel that the shot and then reversal in feeling from feeling super shitty to super awesome is one of the best feelings ever, just as good as the high in itself.

ever shoot good cocaine?
you taste that for sure, and when you taste it you know you're about to get your ass kicked by it
i could be way off base here
but i always heard something about the blood (filled with the drug) circulating through your lungs
and then you are able to taste it on your breath
correct me if i'm wrong, cause that's just what i heard from junkies (no offense fellow needlephreaks)

Better than the high in my opinion...

Totally tastable. I used to break down crack and shoot it and I could always taste the coke plus the vinegar I broke it down with. I call it the rollercoaster effect. Its like, a rollercoaster coming UP your throat. Same with heroin, but it is not as strong. Now, as far as shooting pharms, I don't recall and tasting.

Whenever I used to take Hydros, I would get a strong SMELL in my nose, and it smelled just like the way tylenol tastes. I assume that there was so much Tylenol in my bloodstream that I was actually smelling it through the small blood vessels in my nose. Now the same thing happens when I'm banging Roxies, but it's much more pleasant with them. When I shoot them, I get a really sweet smell. I can't really describe it, I mean it smells really 'Sanitary' like something from a hosptial. It's this 'synthetic/sweet' smell. Does anybody else get this?

I have taken Lunesta and I too had a metallic and kind of bitter taste in my mouth roughly 1 hour after taking it. I also taste some drugs when used I.V.. Cocaine for sure I can taste right after I shoot it, dope not as much. In a way I know if I taste it that I didn't miss a vein so I was always happy when I could taste the drug.

i love the taste from shooting heroin. i dont really see it as a side effect although technically i guess it is, but it only lasts a really short time and then it goes away, it doesnt really affect anything like these things other people are talking about. i always figured it was from the heroin in the blood reaching your lungs and that was causing it but who knows. it could be the arteries carying it to your tastebuds or something but i would think by that point it would be so diluted in the blood that you wouldnt taste it at all.
