the latter is possible but substantially less likely.

infected particles or harmful material can migrate to almost any part of the body, but the legs are one of the most likely locations they'd end up if they did migrate from the injection site depending on where it is.

Generally an abscess will form at the site or around the site . As was said in the other post, you could get an abscess in the leg, but more often than not, your going to see abscesses at the site or around the site.

If you have an abscess on your leg, it could be due to something else and yet again due to your use. Abscesses are more commonly seen in those who do IM injections(into the muscle) or who inject just under the skin, a subcutaneous injection.

If you do have an abscess, keep it clean and dry and see a doc if you can. Depending on how bad it is, you can treat it at home with a topical antibiotic ointment and cleaning it daily with a half strength solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. Keep it covered and if it gets worse or you begin to feel sick go see a doctor or visit the ER or clinic.

An abscess should not be ignored and they can be prevented by using clean equipment and techniques. Good handwashing and cleaning the site before injection are really important. Keeping your equipment clean is also a must. By keeping your equipment in a clean dry place you can help to avoid problems with infection. Clean the area with alcohol or wash it really well before injection. If you cannot wash your hands, get some of the antibacterial hand cleaner. It is better than nothing and it will work. Handwashing and those cleaners work by friction and using a cleaner, you want to rub it into the hands until it's gone.
I know these things are not always available and sometimes we are in a place where a sink is not accesible, but by taking some precautions you can avoid infection.

If you have an abcess or any other kind of infection, don't wait around to see if it will "just go away." Get it treated. Trust me, internal infections can lead to all kinds of horrible chronic pain conditions and you do NOT want that!

ya i thought i had one behind my knee but i guess not. scared me. i hate when you kinda get blood but your sick and youve missed too many times so you go for it and you half miss. i always freak out and get paranoid. i thought i had one growing on my arm once, it felt like one and it was real hard to stick a needle in around the site (its as if itd get stuck in a mass of something) and no blood would come out. luckily it wasnt one, i forget what it was but all i needed to do was put warm cloths on it for a few day and give the ER doc 100$

Sounds like you have some scarred tissue. You're not alone. In fact its something I suspect is somewhat inevitable when you keep poking for veins!
By the way I'm pretty sure you'll know when u really have an abscess cos (a) it will hurt like fuck and I mean hurt!! (b) you will be able to do exciting things like shoot people with the force of projectile vomit at less than twenty paces with the slightest pressure in the swollen place.(Even nasty things like abscesses have their 'fun' aspects.)
Always look on the bright side!!
