Sharing your email address via vCard- How to guide

Ok for those who still don't know what a vCard is; I'm going to fill you in. It is a great way to share your email address with other members without violating forum rules, and it is currently the ONLY way to do so without breaking the rules.

Really it is pretty basic. It's like an electronic business card, except instead of having your business info it has your Opiophile User Name and contact email. You can choose whether or not you want to make you email address available for download by other members, it's your choice.

Now one thing before the "how to". If you want to use this option but don't want to use the email address you provided at the time you signed up for the site all your have to do is change your contact email in your user options. In other words, you may want to make an email account somewhere free like Google, Hushmail, Yahoo or Hotmail just for use here, I wouldn't suggest using your personal email address, business email address, or work email address.

These are directions on where the vCard option is and how to activate it; if you choose to do so.

STEP ONE: Go to "User Options" on the Nav bar.

STEP TWO:
On the left in the User Control Panel, scroll down to "Edit Options"

STEP THREE:
The first section is "Login and Privacy"

STEP FOUR:
If you want to allow members to download you email address simply check the box "Allow vCard Download"

STEP FIVE:
If you have checked the "Allow vCard Download" box scroll down to the bottom of the page and click
"Save Changes"

That's it!!! That is all you have to do to share your email address with other members. Next I will show you where to find the vCard download link in another member's profile and how to download and open it.

These directions will show you how to locate, download, and open a vCard from another member's profile.

STEP ONE:
Navigate to the member's profile that you want to contact. To see if they allow a vCard download, click the Tab "Contact Info"

STEP TWO:
If a member is sharing their email address you will see a link, "Download vCard".

STEP THREE:
To download, click the "Download vCard" link and save the file to your computer. Be sure to remember where you saved it.

STEP FOUR:
You remembered where you saved the file right? OK open the file by right clicking on it. In the right click menu. Choose "Open With" and pick "Notepad". If "Notepad" is not listed there simply click "Choose Program....", Windows will give you a list of the programs mostly likely to be able to open it. "Notepad" should definitely be there.

STEP FIVE:
Once you have opened the vCard file with Notepad you will be able to view the member's user name and contact email.
