Okay, lately when I take Ultram ER (200mg, encased in this hard capsule that I crush in my mouth in order to get the powder out), and I usually take 3, I don't feel much of anything. I used to before... but not now. And I only take it maybe once a week for time-out high. Is my inability to gain the good effects of this drug due to the drugs I currently am taking?? I.E., Cymbalta Provigl Lexapro Trazadone

Taking 3 equals 600 mg. Today I took an extra, making 800 mg, and finially feel at least something. Am I at risk in taking too much? I'd like to take another, but wont out of concern for Seratonin Syndrom and siezures.

I appreciate any advice homeys.:)

I believe the threshold is 300-350mgs in a single dose, but if you're taking an SSRI as well it becomes more risky.

I'm not into tramadol, but someone should be a long soon with a more definitive answer.

Take care.

Ah thanks Nick. 300-350 doesn't do diddly to me, I guess my tolerance is still too high.
Well, I feel fine now. Lets hope I dont get a seizure while I'm driving to get my cigarettes....

You should crush those extended release tablets into a powder before you swallow them.

What's your tolerance like? Can you get high from a few Vicodin? When I had a low tolerance, 600mg of Tramadol would've had me feeling pretty good.

I've always liked Tramadol. I think it's because of the very first time I ever tried it. A friend of mine went to the ER to try to score some Vicodin. At the time we got pretty high from 7-8 of em', so we were hoping for 20 to split... well, the doc gave him Ultram instead. Neither one of us knew what they were at the time, and we figured they were some bullshit, like Ibuprofen. We were very disappointed and not expecting any buzz. I took about 400mg right away and when it kicked in I was very surprised and happy to feel that familiar opiate high. I really liked it for a while after that, until my tolerance got too high.

Sorry for the long story...

Seizure risk with tramadol is pretty much binary. IF you have a history of seizures, stay away from high doses, but if you don't, even at massive doses around 1% of people IIRC actually get seizures. Take a benzo or some topamax with it. Of course in higher doses the side effects become a lot more pronounced than the opiate effects of tramadol.

Hey this is the same shit hubby just got a coupla weeks ago. I tried a few and then checked the bottle and saw ER...so i guess i shoulda crushed em up and then swallowed. He got the 200mg. I'm not into them either but when low on opies or totally OUT its better than NOTHING!

Thanks guys for your help.
I indeed crush the ER; rather, in my mouth. I chew it so it splits, I can feel the powder spill out. I have no history of seizures or anything like that. My tolerance is high, but haven't using other opiates since I kicked the pod habit months ago (had to stop due to lack of money. I'm piss poor). Maybe next time I'll crush the things on a plate first to make sure that the coating is totally busted.

Indy: I have access to benzos and topomax. Shall I try a topomax with my next dose? My dose is usally 600, however yesterday I had 800.

Tramadol used to make me pretty fuzzed up. I hope I'm not tolerant now, as its the only thing I have access to until I get a steady income.

PS: I read on another thread that there is a ceiling dose of 400mg (ahem, codeine, ahem).
IS THAT TRUE?!?!?
PPS: The only SSRI I am taking is Lexapro. Cymbalta is an SNRI, if it makes a difference.

Before I read all the way through this thread, I was gonna post a warning to adjust your dose when crushing, since the time release would be defeated. Since you've been crushing them all along, it doesn't apply to you. :)

For anyone else trying this (crushing their extended release pills) for the first time, please be careful with your dosage until you know what the effects are. Tramadol can be dangerous at too high of a dose and everyone's limit is different.

From what I've read about ER pills, my understanding is that half the dose is released right away, and the rest is slowly released over the next 8-12 hours.

It does sound like tolerance has become an issue if 800mg isn't working for you. I'm pretty sure that Tramadol has a ceiling dose as far as the M1 metabolite is concerned. When taking trams your liver works to convert the M1 metabolite which gives the, sorta kinda opiate feeling, but it can only metabolize so much of the M1 at one time. The SNRI effects I don't think apply to the ceiling dose though.

And yes, codeine has a ceiling of I believe 400mg. Same deal as with Trams, the liver can only convert so much codeine into morphine at one time...

Still reeling over the ceiling effect part. Ironically, the only other drug I have access to is codeine; and as we all know that has a bad one. However, upon researching on the net a few days ago I came across various reports of the actual ceiling dose: 400, 450, 500; mostly found upon medical pages and not stuff like bluelight, etc.

Please becareful with the trams,I underestimated them and ended up in a seizure by taking 2 many in a days time..They can be some fun and also a real pain in the ass after waking up off the floor..I did notice when I took a Zanie with them they didn't bother me at higher doses but I STILL DON'T RECOMMEND IT...Be Safe

Yeah, always dangerous in high doses.. I don't need much, some opiates don't seem to have a very high cross-tolerance

This is really dumb and I might b flamed for it. But I took a bunch of Xanax one night and it makes me a total klepto for some reason. I tried to steal some DVDs from Best Buy along with some I was buying and got caught. I was so distraught and depressed and out of it and remembering how bad withdrawl was in jail that I took my whole bottle of ultram. There was like 30 or 40 pills in there. It kept me from being sick for two days and I was having very strange closed eye "hallicinations" if u can call them that I felt I was actually in them and then woke up out of them like a nod. Sorry I'm X'd out and yea. Don't try this at home or jail.

With the drugs you are taking, especially lexapro, do NOT take tramadol AT ALL. 200 mg is a high dose especially on SSRIs like lexapro. Please read the sticky at the top of this forum on tramadol and seizures. You're playing with fire.

Thanks for all of your advice guys. I've been kinda in a "fuck all" self destructo mood lately, so I'll lay off the trams. I'm getting way past the point of frustration of not being able to get high- and we all know what that means... It means taking even more drugs just to find that fleeting satisfaction. I'm not gonna find it, and I thank all of you for pointing that out. And the fact I might be a floppy fish on the floor.
Parox, thanks for reminding me about the Lexapro. I almost always forget I'm on the shit; my psychai rx'd it for me in the spring on top of the cymbalta. Honestly, I think the Lexapro isn't doing much for me, and I'm on enough medicine already. I have an appt. with them soon, I wanna discuss stopping the lexapro. OH not just for the sake of reducing my risk with taking tram and other drugs, btw.

Pantyshot: What?! What!?!

PS: In my defence of Tramadol, It did ween me off of pods very, very successfully. I forsee pods in the future, though...
