I've been reading Otto Snows book Oxy and theres several sections on Thebaine that are quiet interestering...The first one that I'll quote is called Thebaine from Oriental Poppies:

A new strain of garden poppy weas developed in Tasmaina which produces more thebaine then the origonal garden poppy and is grown alongside the opium poppie in the fields of Tasmaina. Oriental poppy pods are one third the size of garden poppies and produce one third the amount of seeds. In the Great Red Oriental, thebaine concentraion reaches a peak in capsuoles 3-4 weeks (latex 28-53% thebaine) after the petals open and then two weeks later it peakes again. Fully mature capsules (dried) produce higher yields as thebaine is "unbound" at this stage and is more completley estracted, plus seeds can be used for food. The alkaliod yields are from 0.32%-3.75% thebaine for capsules. Alkaloid production increases with the age of plants. Plants which are several years old (3-4 years) produce more flowers and contain higher concentrations of thebaine than younger plants. Petretment of seeds with colchicine increases thebaine production in plants.

thats all for now, I'll post more later...;)

yeah, this same book by Otto Snow (great guy, I have written him several times) describes how thebaine is metabolized into a potent opiate by the primate liver....the test subjects were initially stimulated by the thebaine, and as the thebaine was metabolized into another opiate , narcotic, analgesic sopoforic reactions were noted. This was a daily regimine, and the test subjects displayed physical habituation to the material.

as this is a fairly limited study, I imagine that the people behind the idea of the norman poppy strain havnt really considered that they may just be creating another form of drug plant that might have actual benefits for illicit use, namely the biphasic effects of thebaine.

anyone consuming pods or poppy seeds or raw opium is most likely consuming a good amount of thebaine.

This is why I always find fresh cut poppies and the latex that oozes out of them to be nicer and more effective for pain management than dried poppies with mature seed inside.

I generally harvest my pods from a poppy plant 10-14 days after the petals have fallen off.

I know I am pulling up a post from a few months ago, but I have a question:

Has anyone tried the oriental poppy to experiment with thebaine? There are pleny of these plants around at the garden shops, and they are legal, so if thebaine works well enough to fix for a few hours, why not?

Thoughts?

You might want to read up on oripavine's toxicity first, or at least put something nice for me in your will.
