How would someone remove the promethazine from the syup.
Even if it takes alot of chem work...
Hm, acid/base extraction? Depending on the pH of the two, and depending on the purity you needed, you could probably get away with one pass and cut away the promethazine content enough.
, I've been using codeine syrup lately a bit more, and i'm really starting to LOVE the promethazine part, but i'm also starting to really HATE it. I wish i could separate it so that i can choose whether or not i want it. So even if i could cut it down by like, half, that'd be enough most likely.

... what exactly does the promethazine do/make you feel?
My dad had a big bottle of that stuff sitting around after he'd had pneumonia, like 3 months later. He doesn't like ANYTHING to be in his medicine cabinet that he isn't taking, so he actually gave it to me. He does not know I am on bupe. He is quite elderly and his head would explode and implode at the same time if he knew.
I thought all but the codeine was just stuff/fillers/etc. So... I took it in case I ever run out of subs and need something "opiate" to help out a bit with w/ds; actually ended up taking a few days off bupe and then trying it and of course the whole bottle did nothing/bupe was still blocking. So, wasted. The bottle, not me.
But just curious about the promethazine.

The Phenergan / promethazine is an antihistamine used to treat nausea and other things. It's main side effects are drowsiness and light-headedness. I know that it helps potentiate the drowsiness of the codeine, and it also helps with the itchiness of the codeine because it's an antihistamine.

phenergan is great for sleep IMO. its also mixed with some opi's when given IV to minimize nausea. well:rolleyes:...its mixed with codein in syrup and with demerol in mepergans too. The syrup and mepergans are good when you really need em and feel like shit and need some rest(wisdom teeth removed or bad cold)

Wish it was easier to get - now that's something that really could be OTC and not cause a whole like of damage. I remember now; I had it years ago when I had bronchitis or something, and it worked so well.
At least around here (upper midwest) it's hard to get a doctor to even script it or heaven forbid the HYDRO syrup! My husband did get the hydro stuff once, and used about 2 tsps of it and left it in the cabinet forever.
I was on bupe and of course tried to use that bottle too..... hope he doesn't go looking for it some day. Isnt it crazy how "normal" people can leave something like that untouched? Or have a script for it and consider NOT getting it filled even?
Sheesh - these normal (I should say "non-drug" people or something; its not like we're not NORMAL here) ......like my husband just drive me crazy, not guzzling all their drugs asap!

I know. My younger sister has a lot of respiratory problems. She gets sinus infections all the times because her adnoids or something like that is messed up. But anyway, she told me that the doctor always asks her if she wants a cough syrup, and she always says no. I don't understand that at all. I used to love Tussionex in college. But yeah, it amazes me how she can just say no, or even--god forbid--throw the script away when she gets one.

I know what ya'll mean. A friend of mine(that doesn't know i use) had a root canal the other day and got a rx for 20 hydros and said he wasn't going to get them filled because aleve was working for the pain. He didn't get it filled for 2 days so i eventually said "You need to go get them filled just in case, shit I might need one sometime";)
