i learned not to shoot subs, i got an infection in my vein that ran from my hand to my shoulder. phlebothrombosis i think they call it.

wait a couple days and if it gets worse, then go to the doc and get some antibiotics. the big ones can be real bad if left untreated

well sweety, first off, its here for you to search.... second, when in doubt go to the er. your not suppose to shoot pills and there some nasty shit in there that can cause some bad infections. and why the fuck would you use the vein in your bicept.... but, im a chick, and my veins dont stick out so, what do i know.

the only things for abcsesses are hot compresses, but try to limit the mositure, maybe put a heating pad in there, rub neosporian on it, keep it clean all day. and antibiotics.

but serious, go to the fucking er man....

fucking iving subs.... bad shit to miss with. if it starts to get hot, and filling with goo...

ive tryed working with my own, and draining them and stuff, and in the long run.... i regrested the sheer pain i put myself thru when i could have just went to the er and got the right treatment and avoided the gore.

not soomething to toy with

Like Antigonemuse says: Put hot compresses on the red spot. Not so hot that it burns or hurts, but really warm so it can stay on there for 10 minutes or so, still warm. A heating pad over a wet washcloth works, but if you don't have a heating pad, insulate the wet washcloth with a towel or so.
Outline the spot with black ink - magic marker. If the redness grows outside the line, or you get red streaks going up your arm, time to go to the Emergency Room. Also if you get a fever or start feeling really sick, also ER time.
The purpose of the hot packs is to keep the infection in one area and to draw your white blood cells to that area to fight the infection. Hopefully the abscess will come to a point and will open on its own. Draining the abscess is what needs to happen, preferably on its own. DO NOT try to poke it or drain it at home - that may cause a more serious blood borne infection. If it gets a point, go to the ER. they can drain it correctly & give you antibiotics & send you home good as new :).
It's possible that you missed your vein & this is just the junk causing a chemical abscess. If so, it probably won't form a head, or a point (like a HUGE pimple).
Keep us posted, OK?

Yep: look most of us have done this, so don't get too worried, it's pretty common for people who IV to try pills and eventually, inevitably, get an abcess...as others have said, just keep an eye on it, if it does start to get inflamed or feverish--as opposed to just swollen and painfull--then go on down to the ER, or see a local doc, and they'll put u on antibiotics, and get rid of the infection...but it's not a radical emergency situation, so don't get too worried about it...u'll know if it gets infected, it gets all red and purpilish and *hot*, and then go to ER, but a lot of times they just go away after a day or so....

Just a very commonplace learning experience...if it hurts, I always feel better w/hot compresses or something, but again, I've had several of'em, and I'm still kicking so u'll be alright...

Anyway, best wishes to u, and hope u feel better...

Over 15 years of IV use and I'd never had an abscess until I started booting subs, got two small ones and they went away on their own. I start eating garlic and vitamin C by the handful at first sign and the worst I've had was a large bump on my forearm that faded over about 6 weeks, never had anything lanced but I've seen it and know it sucks and it's nasty so don't let it go - if it's red and sore then don't wait more than a day or two for improvement.

The trick to subs is to filter them in cold water, basically an IV CWE with a big ass cotton and the solution should be crystal clear (unless it's 'xone in which it should be clear orange - yes you can and no, the naloxone doesn't do shit). I don't recommend it tho, it's really not worth the hassle. If you want it that bad just go get some fucking dope and save the bup for when you need it..

Yep: and the main, *best* advice for pills is: *Don't Miss!!!*

This shit is hard enough on our system when we get it in the bloodstream, but when we put it in our muscle or just in the tissue around the veins, that's where all the problems come from...

And really, I know it's useless to say this, but subs don't do shit...nothing, no buzz, I mean, they might "work" as far as doing what subs always do, which is slowly get you well, but to risk all this crap for something that has no rush, and no buzz, is not sane...and of course, I had to try it several times myself, so I don't know why I"m even saying this...

but if yer like me, and just *have* to try it, "don't miss..."

I know, me, at this point, would adopt a "wait and see" attitude. It sounds like you're doing the right thing, keeping an eye on it, keeping it clean and all that, probably if u get a chance a good hot bath would do wonders for it, but other thant that I'd just keep doing what you're doing, and again, if it--or you--get a fever, or it gets obviously worse in any way, then trot down to the ER...

Hell of a good learning experience, and not to be discounted....

It will take anywhere from a few days to a week or so to know if it is actually going to be an abcess or not. A lot of the time when you miss the area just gets irritated but after a few days it goes away. But even if it does turn into an abcess it isn't something that is going to kill you in a few hours. If it turns into an abcess, you absolutely need to go get it checked out, but don't panic. Just wait a few days and see what happens. Like others have said, all you can really do is put a hot compress on it and try to draw some of the crap up to the surface.

Google on "burn scar products", "scar sheets", "silicone scar sheets", and you're sure to find them.
from a thread here called Cover your tracks, most agree that Dermablend is the best. i was reading this just today. oh and this http://www.rejuveness.com/..

Hiya pun, glad it's getting better.
The best way to avoid track marks is by using a new syringe every time you shoot up. That way you are assured of a steril and factory sharp needle. Over time, needles get dull, and the duller the needle the more likely it is it will leave a mark.
Needles are sized by Gauge. The higher the number, the finer the gauge. Insulin syringes, which are the easiest for us to get, usually use very fine needles. A 25 is pretty good (what I used back in the day), a 29 is good and a 30 is very fine and excellent. The smaller the needle the smaller the mark.
You must also rotate your injection sites. Become ambidextrous. I can't write worth shit with my left hand but I sure can shoot drugs:D! Find 4 or 5 veins that work well and rotate through them in a system. That allows each site to have a chnace to heal before you hit it again.
good luck!
