Was pulled over by a narcotics detective the other day ( .actually he had a patrol unit stop us, then pul.l.ed .up seconds after)
He took my lock box and methadone bottles for the weekend, and told me Id have to file a request monday to get them back (after a fruitless search for "dope") he made comments and made it clear that he knew id get my methadone back today (monday) but he thought it amusing id be left with no meds all weekend, and even said "enjoy your weekend you fucking junky" :(
I had to work 2~ 13 hour shifts with no medication
On top of that my dealer was busted( well indicted federally and he split to mexico last i heard) so no street relief either
Is this legal of an officer to confiscate methadone thats not overdue? I had id the bottles were scribed to me
( I had them in a lock box too but hadnt yet got a chance to drop the box at home due to work)
Gotta hate texas

I have heard of this before. Some one told me they called the Feds cause it is a Fed Crime to confiscate meds. Alot of hassle for a asshole pig

Sounds like a trap to me too. They lead you in, sit you down, say they'll be right back with your meds and out come the questions, and the blackmail. It's too risky to go back to get it, I'd just talk to your doc, and see what he says.

Actually, I have heard of this before. It was a little different; a couple, both on a program, were pulled over. The guy had a warrant and was arrested. The lady was free to go, but not with the box with her meth in it (they shared). She had 6 take-homes at 165mg. . . gone. Lost her take home privilages, too. Just basically screwed. Talk about SOL! Another reason being on methadone sucks. It may not be legal, but not many junkies will fight that. And would anything really happen to the piggy who "did something wrong?" I doubt it.

Damn Tar, I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder how many childhood bullies become cops, just so they can legally push people around? Despite being fairly nice, my city's got some of the most corrupt cops this side of the border. It always pisses me off to hear of cops who have become criminals that are, because of their job description, above prosecution.

If you speak out against this corruption, then you are viewed as being against the police, and therefore are in the eyes of society, a criminal. It's a no-win situation, unless you're a cop.:(

I say call their bullshit, fuck'em, and sue. Imagine if you had MS, and a cop pulled you over, took your meds, and told you "have a nice weekend retard" -- sorry about the language (if anybody cares) but its not illegal to be a junky.

Letting it go encourages this behavior, and obviously this asshole has been encouraged by illegal searches and the power trip and shit...

Of course, if you piss of a narc officer you'll be on every shit list in town if that asshole is on good terms with his peers. Then again, if he's the asshole the city / state needs to scapegoat you may be doing them a favor.

YES, its illegal to steal someone's legally obtained, medically prescribed, meds and put you in harm's way over the weekend. Sounds to me like they were expecting you to go back and score, when they could get you for a real offense... but you didn't (or at least you didn't get caught)...

By the way, if they're after your dealer, they may have expected you to go cop from him, leading them to him. That apparently didn't work either.

Fuck'em if you're feeling brave... but if you made it and don't feel like pursuing (possibly for a lifetime) this, and probably ending up on some public document as a done patient, then just chalk it up as another event in the life...

Wow sorry for that rant I guess it just hit a nerve... keep your helmet down soldiers (especially in the trenches)...

This is why fucking pigs get shot in the line of duty in my opinion. Everyone take my truthful advise, just like my lawyer said, the cops are NOT your friends and are only out to get you no matter how they act. This stuff pisses me off so bad, if I were in the situation as the poster of this I would have fought this no matter how much it cost or what effort just to get a point across. If we keep letting this shit happen then this country is just going to get shittier and shittier, we need protests and war to fight this crap that is happening to us as a minority. Something needs to be done, if nothing is done I sure hope I die way before this country gets worse than it already is. I already hate being alive in the state I'm in now even, god forbid it get worse.

You know what, I know there are corrupt policemen and things get fucked up sometimes, but we DO live in a pretty good country. Im tired of people bad-mouthing the US of A. Fuckin leave if you dont like it so much. Go to some other country where you get the death-penalty for possesion, or your hands cut-off for theft. I mean I am definitley on Tar-baby's side, and I would definitely fight it, but we dont have Hitler alive and well killing whoever he wants. We stopped that shit cause we are a strong country. Yes we have bullshit laws regarding pain-meds, but you know what, it could be worse. Atleast we get stuff like suboxone and methadone, Im sorry, Im an American and proud of it, and dont like it when people bad-mouth my country.

I have been pulled over many many times, and I can honestly say that I have come across 2 fair-minded cool cops. I had some val's and a joint one time, and explained to the cop that I was trying to ween myself off the blues and I was so close to my goal, he actually let me go. I got off another time with 2 8th's of weed in seperate baggies, with the intent to sell. He just dumped it out and let me go. Now mind you, this was only 2 times out of probably 15 times of getting pulled over, but they arent all bad. It sounds like you got the worst of them all Tar_Baby and Im sorry man.

I know Im probably gonna get shit for this post, but it just hurt me when the last poster stated that he hates being alive in this state!!! I mean, atleast you werent born in ethiopia starving with flys in your face and no shoes! C'mon people, it could be worse.........right?.........or did I just go on everybodys shitlist?

Fascism doesnt always look like Hitler...And yes this is a great country...it just happens to be performing a balancing act that closley resembles the fall of Rome. It's that attitude the "It's not perfect but I'll take it." attitude that Orwell expresses in 1984 that only enables those in power to fuck things up more.
"Life Liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness." We can never stop pursueing.

WOW did I just say all that...I'm sure your a great person shaun and I feel like quite the tool now cause I do agree with you in many ways and am a hypocrit just like every other pompous ass on this giant space ship we call earth...

Speaking of Tool whose pumped for their new album?

I know we all like to live in a place of euphoria, but unfortunately, I am increasingly aware of our government's sins. And I'm as much to blame as the next guy for not being more vocal about it - but I'm trying. I too used to be proud to be an American - but not now - I am ashamed of what we've become, world class bullies. People used to look up to the U.S. but not anymore. I really used to believe in "purple plains of majesty and amber waves of grain", the sense of fair play and looking out for the underdog. Now we go around looking for dogs to kick. The answer is not to love it or leave it, but rather, love it or change it. Everybody put down the pipe or whatever for just a couple of minutes a day and write your representatvies and senators, if you're too lazy for that, send them an e-mail. What the fuck happened to Peace, Love, etc. That gave way to Look after #1 and fuck everyone else. If you value America at all, you'll take whatever steps you can to put it back on course as a nation of great people instead of a country of "don't-give-a-shits" who allow their loose-cannon lunatic Prez to continue as Dick-tater, spying on and arresting whomever he pleases, making war on innocent people. To think any of us can be "disappeared" these days just because someone "thinks" you may be a terrorist, to know the Prez is all for your being tortured - is that the America you love?

Atleast we have constitutional rights, no other country in the world has ANY constitutional rights. We get to drive from state to state if we choose without any documents. That is one thing that we take for granted. Can you imagine anytime you wanted to drive across country having to stop at every state border and give an explanation of why you are coming or going. You gotta give up some things in exchange for other things. Thats the way I look at it.

I know this country is not perfect, but NOTHING IS PERFECT!!

You have to look at it like this, lets say everything YOU wanted to change about this country was changed according to the way you wanted it to be. Thats good for you, but there are always going to be other people that are going to be complaining about the way YOU changed it. No matter what gets changed, there are always going to be unhappy people bitching about shit THEY want changed. There is no such thing as perfect, it doesnt exist. Im not saying lets not do anything about anything, and that its all hopeless, all Im saying is that if you want to change something about this country, than do whatever you can thats in your power to do. But most of the stuff I hear about is just people complaining and bitching, then doing nothing about it.

I say lets stop complaining about it, and act instead. Posting about how this country is in, or is going into the shitter (especially on this site) gets absolutley nothing done whatsoever. Instead of typing up what you hate in posts, type it up on Word and send it to whoever it needs to go to.

There are 2 types of people in this world, the ones that talk, but dont act, and ones that just act without wasting time talking about it.

Tar_Baby, please dont think for an instant that I think what happened to you was called for, or your fault in any way, quite the opposite. I just cant believe that you didnt go straight to the police station and made a complaint that a copper took away your scripted medication, and that without it you cant work and will go into w/d's. I MEAN ITS LEGALLY SCRIPTED TO YOU!!! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?? I just dont get it.

TarBaby,
Sounds like what he did was illegal. Methadone is a prescribed medication and as long as the bottles had your name on it and it was labeled with the docs name and clinic info, there should be no reason he took them or caused you any grief. Without finding any dope or anything else illegal in your vehicle or on your person, he was way out of line, not to mention violating your rights.
I would look into state regulations of Methadone and see what it stated. He may have had no right to take your Methadone and he himself violating the law. There are state regulations regarding the distribution of Methadone and I believe that having them in a locked boxed is one of them. It may be clinic rules, but I do believe it may be state regulation as well regarding take homes.

Here in L.A. at our Needle Exchanges the cops have been harrassing the people coming in and out who are exchanging needles. Clearly they are only harrassing those using exchange, but it certainly makes those using the exchange nervous and the numbers of those using exchange dropped.
Damned if we do and damned if we don't. I guess the state prefers dirty needles in public places and spending the money to care for those infected with HIV and HCV.
The city allows Needle Exchange, but yet will do nothing to stop the police from harrassing those using it. I guess my rant.
"The War on Drugs," what a crock! It's a shame we can't find anyone brighter to run our country.

Although having to deal with the law, I would really consider looking into Federal and State regulations. If your clean, other than the Methadone, what right does this moron have to confiscate your medication. Your prescribed Methadone, just like any other legal drug and other than having it in a locked container, as long as it is prescribed to you, there should be no reason he took it.

When I traveled to Texas last year with my Methadone, I made sure there was no problem with my traveling with it and neither CA nor Texas stated any State or Federal laws regulating my having it on my person. In fact I was told I did not need to lock it up or store it in my suitcase. I could carry it with my just as I would any other medication. In fact my worry was it being lost with my luggage. I was told as long as it had my name and the name and number of the doc/clinic, I was fine and it was as legal as carrying any other med.

We just can't seem to get a fucking break!

Why would anyone think that the U.S. is the only country with constitutional rights? Do you really think that we just happened to be born in the best country in the world?? For us?? What are the chances of that? There ARE better countries in which to live for most people. And if there isn't for you it is probably because you have internalized the culture the state apparatuses are pushing. Travel around some before you say this is the best coutry and start blasting people for being unsatisfied. Don't sit here like the fucking rednecks saying shit like "if you don't like it here then leave," or "they cut people's hands off in other places." That's fucking ridiculous. There are hundreds of countries, each one is unique; there are some fucked up ones and there are some really great ones. You think because you have the gov't line you have more of a right to live here than any of us? Fuck that! You are better than that shaunclo. Complacency is why things aren't way better than they are.
