I had to take a drug test for a job last week. It's a job that I REALLY need.

As many of you know, I maintain on poppy seed tea, and the seeds I use are very good. They're loaded with morphine. My tolerance is pretty high but I can get a nod going if I drink enough of this tea, and I do it almost every day.

So, prior to my test I went to the dentist and claimed severe tooth pain from a tooth that's falling apart. I got a script for Tylonol 3, which I figured would cover my positive opiate result, I knew I was going to have. Even so, I drank a shit-load of water prior to my test and was pissing about every 10 minutes.

I just got off the phone with the doctor who did the drug screen. He said I tested positive for morphine. Not opiates, not codeine... morphine.

I explained to him I've been taking codeine for my tooth and he said, that's not it because I tested negative for codeine, only morphine.

Then he asked me if I'd eaten anything with poppy seeds in it prior to my test. I had a little chuckle to myself but out loud I told him Yes. I said I'd been eating some Polish poppy seed rolls last week.

Then, much to my suprize he says "Well, your morphine level is pretty low (I drank A lot of water, my piss was clear) and because I had been eating food with poppy seeds he's going to report my test results to the company as NEGATIVE! I passed!

I always thought a script for codeine would account for a positive morphine result because codeine is metabolized into morphine but according to this doctor, that wasn't it because there was no codeine in my system. It was my admission of eating poppy seed rolls that got me out of this one.

Whatever... it sure was a relief to here him say he's going to report "Negative" to the company. I have to go celebrate!

Yeah when I was at rehab they banned all poppyseed products. I guess a bag of bagels made a whole house fail their tests.

I once "passed" a state pee test by claiming on the pre test form that I had ingested LOTS of poppy seed cake the day prior to the test. Of course I did NOT mention the intravenous morphine I had self administered the day before. I was cleared by poopyseed cake too. Thank the Opi Gods!

Now I'm really curious, and I assume you were not taking the T3's just have them laying around. So I wonder, if you have taken a few just to keep the story straight, and you tested positive for Codeine AND Morphine, if they would just pass that off as the T3's. I assume they can test for metabolites from Codeine, and they can test of metabolites from Morphine...but since Codeine is metabolized into Morphine if that would have gotten you a pass???

Well, I guess it doesn't matter, all that matters is you passed!

I WAS taking the Tylenol 3's. I figured they would at least potentiate my PST high. I couldn't really feel them (I don't think) but I took them anyway.

The thing is, I drank A LOT of water the morning of my test. I was pissing every 10 minutes and it was coming out real clear. That has always worked for me in the past.

But the seeds I'm using for tea are very good, and I drink A LOT of it. My tolerance is pretty high and I can still get a good buzz every day from the PST so you can imagine how much morphine is on them. I guess I had so much morphine in my system, there was still a detectible amount in my urine, although he did say the level was very low, which is why he decided to call it Negative. I didn't ask for the actual number but I assume it was at a level that could be the result of normal poppy seed consumption. If only he knew... the only people who do know besides all of you are the cashiers at the local produce markets. They must call me the "Poppy seed guy". I buy over 6 lbs. a day!

oddly enough, last time I was tested - my oxymorphone, oxycodone or morphine didn't show.. only the 'done that I had stopped three weeks prior..

I'm the same way with my local grocery stores. I've stopped going to one of them though cause i'm pretty sure this one lady knows 'SOMETHING' is up, and she doesn't even say good evening or have a nice day when i say it to her. Even though i have a perfect alibi and there ARE people who buy tons of poppy seeds for that reason (you can grind them up and use them as a base for a type of bread). Everyone else is friendly about it but it really seems like she thinks i'm satan incarnate.

And yeah, i'm pretty sure they call me the poppy seed guy, too.

None of their business though, really. I'm a reliable customer and that's all they really need to know. Thankfully everywhere else i go the clerks are really friendly and pleasant.

EDIT: i've said this before in some other topic, but i tested positive for morphine and codeine the one time i got tested (wasn't important for anything though so it didn't matter. BUT, i ALSO tested positive for oxycodone of all things, when at that time i had never even had oxycodone IIRC, and if i did it was at least a year prior to being tested. IMO this really seems to suggest that thebaine really DOES metabolize to oxycodone in at least some people. I had heard that before but wasn't sure.

^^^ More than likely the oxycodone screen probably tests for thebaine type molecules. Oxycodone is very similar to thebaine. I've read that thebaine can turn into oripavine in the body but never heard oxycodone. Who knows, i could be wrong. If this is true, no wonder opium is so addicting. You get addicted to morphine, codeine, thebaine, noscapine, oxycodone and then the oxycodone metabolizes into oxymorphone. That's an unstoppable cocktail right there.

One of the reasons I hate drug screens so much... You hear all these stories of false positives and results that don't make any sense at all. Major decisions are being made in people's lives over the results of these tests and they aren't even fuckin' accurate!

I wonder how many people lost their jobs or get sent to jail over these bull-shit tests...

In the article that was posted about screening mothers after delivery they said that there were around 70% false positives on the urine screens! How can that even be used as a test? May as well flip a coin.
