Americans are the world's top consumers of cannabis and cocaine despite punitive US drug laws, according to an international study published in the online scientific magazine PLoS Medicine.
The study, released Monday, revealed that 16.2 percent of Americans had tried cocaine at least once, and 42.4 percent had used marijuana.
In second-place New Zealand, (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=New%20Zealand&sid=breitbart.com) just 4.3 percent of study participants had used cocaine, and 41.9 percent marijuana.
The research was conducted at the University of New South Wales (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=New%20South%20Wales&sid=breitbart.com) in Sydney, based on World Health Organization data from 54,068 people in 17 countries. Rates of participation differed from country to country, and researchers noted uncertainty over how honestly people report their own drug use.

....pointless.
You guys wanna get your economy rolling, meet the drug demand, CHING CHING. Spend the money that would normally go to the DEA, over to health care.
99.99999% of research on the subject of drugs should be regarded as fiction, for very obvious reasons.
-However I can believe the part about New Zealand...........if you lived there you'd wanna be high too(I'm just messing Seedy)

i agree w/ Nick in that a lot of the "reports" about drug consumption are works of fiction.....tragic comedies to be more specific

Drugs were initially banned out of racism. Cannabis because of the Mexicans and opium because of the Chinese. We need to turn the clock back to before 1914 when they were totally legal and available. This whole drug war is just a huge money maker. The rich exploiting and enslaving the poor for profit, that's all it is. A reason to violate civil liberties, impose more control over the populace and to profit. All the money for law enforcement agencies, prisons, rehabs, millionaires are making many more millions off our suffering. Also drug companies like Purdue Pharma making billions from morphine and oxycodone pills. Purdue Pharma almost has a monopoly on morphine and oxycodone distribution on this continent! Oxycodone was made in 1916 so the patent has long expired and has been public domain for decades. They're legal gangsters and instead of pushin H, they're pushin M and Oxy. All they are doing is planting a poppy seed that has no value, growing a plant, extracting the sap and processing it into morphine, giving it an absurd value and making billions. A process anyone could be taught in a few hours. With the right equipment and few hours more the process from opium to oxycodone could also be taught. We could all do that if the laws were reasonable, but there's the reason right there, then they won't be able to make money. No government should have the ability to make plants grown from the earth illegal and they have no right to tell you what you can and cannot put in your body. It's absolutley ridiculous. Who is another human to exercise authority over another? We are equal and share the planet equally. Plants from this earth are our God given right to consume and do with them what we please.

The fact that it says NZ is the second top consumer of coke just screams bullshit! There is no coke here! Maybe there's a select few wealthy aucklanders paying $400 a g for it but that's it. And us kiwis definately hold the torch as the biggest weed smoking nation on earth.

nah man it doesnt say second top consumer of coke, it said 4.whatever percent of people they talked to admited to trying it before, which is real low. it doesnt surprise me one bit that theres no coke there, i mean how would it even get there? they only smuggle coke to easy places where lots of people will do it (for example, the US.)

It's the high percentage of those using weed that give NZ second place, not the coke... which is obviously quite low.

This reminds me of a survey that my college did / does every four years for students. It's voluntary of course, but it asks all the typical questions: what drugs have you done, how often, how young were you when you started, etc. Then, every third year or so the Psych dept. has this "drug class" that studies the pharmacodynamics and pharmacology of the different classes of drugs and stuff, and for the final project each student has to analyze the data from these surveys for their presentation. Anyway, yeah, I don't believe in statistics on drug use because no one is ever honest, and if they are it's rare. I mean, there were tons of pills / coke / weed / E on campus, and the statistics showed that most people only cited alcohol as being a problem, or they didn't ever use drugs. It was basically a total lie. But, who am I to judge, I lied too when I voluntarily filled it out. Even though it was anonymous, I still said I had never used because I figured the college could have found out if they really really wanted to (they were handed out in the dorms by the RA's, and mine was a dick, so I figured he would have marked mine somehow if I had been honest). He already suspected me of drug use and it severely pissed him off that he couldn't prove it. I hate him, what a fucker.

Statistics are made for people to believe things. 72% of all people know that.
