vicodin & constipation

does anyone else get severely constipated from using vicodin?
i have a coupe scrips for vicodin tabs which i can get field whenever i need them
and i have a vicodin cough syrup i can use for fun as well
but i am so hesitant to sue it because i swear to god, i have fun fr one day and the next 5 are spent sitting on the shitter
praying to dog for something
anything
to drop out

it makes it so i am hesitant to use it

anyone else have this reaction to vicodin?

Vicodin is like aspirin to me, it does nothing. Umm there are some older folks who know about constipation more than I. That has never been a major problem for me, addiction yes, constipation no.

I'm with you jdub....it has NEVER been a problem for me either...but every other junkie i know has issues with it.ahhhhhh the days when vicodin would get me high.... or even a 5 mg perc for THAT MATTER...miss those days

i couldn't have said it better, vics are like aspirin to me as well, get absolutely no relief from them at all. I also feel the same with percocets no matter how many i do take. The plumbing over here is just fine...but if you feel that way from the vics you should call your doctor for a stool softner...:p

enough norco could keep me well for a short time but even with the reduced aceto content im still taking too many for my liver's comfort...

good for the final stages of a taper tho, thats about it.

The only thing a bottle of vics, percs, or norcos are good for IMHO is a paper weight.

This happened to me too when I first got into the game. However, after the initial week or so of using as directed my body seemed to adjust. If using heavily there is no way around it. Try easing up for a couple of days then that will usually get things moving. Also a dr. can give you something to help too. My sugestion: lots of water, some kind of fiber additives, fruit juice, and fruit. If it comes to it I can choke down a coulple of glasses of prune juice. That usually leads to a couple of mind numbing pushes, then pissing out your ass for the next few hours. Well worth it though.

If you get enough opiates of any sort, I believe you will be getting constipation. Of course the longer you use the more you will be filled up. I had my doctor give me different types of medication try and help, and the only one that worked was polyethylene glycol powder which is generic for miralax. You just pout a few of teaspoons before you eat or while eating and don't taste any difference in taste what you are drinking. Actually you can get an incredible deal at Costco in a two pack. The other OTC and prescribed medications did nothing for me, and this just softens the stool to just make im not taoing any hardcare medicares.

I get constipated on any opiate, but vicodin seems worse to me. Fortunately I cant get high from it anymore so it isn't a big issue. I can get rid of it easily by starting to kick it, then it turns into massive diarrhea :) I have a friend who is more of a casual user than I am, with a much lower tolerance than me, and she gets horrible constipation from vicodin. She has GI problems in general though, so who knows how much is really from the opiates.

That's my story: it'd take a truckload of viks for me to feel'em, but they do increase my constipation which methadone already forces me to use suppositores miralax docusate, and is the *main* reason I've dropped down to 50mg methadone, as it seems a little better...but I try not to go over three days, as the longer I got w/out a Bmovement, the tougher it gets, so by three I'll be in drugstore buying that nasty pre-surgery crap...to me, at my age, constipation is the *worst* side effect of longlasting opys...and mdone of course, is the king :-(*:confused-

That's the trouble with any medication. The nice thing about miralax is that you can just mix it with any drink with out any change in taste of the drink. I've just gotten in the habit of mixing it in every lunch, keeps everything regular. I'm on quite a high dosage of meds, and for miralax to work is great to me.

Fiber! From a person w/ GI probs, the constipation is welcome (not w/ vics though don't do shit now except keep w/d's at bay) I've learned that fiber and the occasional WGFJ I drink to potentiate will send me running for the porcelin god.

Lots of wheat bread, bran flakes for breakfast, or even better eat a bowl of raisin bran 3x daily... will make the bathroom ur new home :P

GL, and FYI you'll get mighty tired of them vics before long. Save some if ya can for the dive into harder opies, nothing sucks worse than going up to Oxy's (or methadone) and running out. "Shit! Now what am i gonna do..."

Interestingly enough I just finished a opioid induced constipation study that paid me ca. $800 to inject a form of naltrexone (opioid receptor antagonist) that does not cross the blood brain barrier and hence blocks the opioids from bonding with the receptors in the bowels without blocking the opioids from providing euphoria/analgesia. They gave me as many free rigs as I wanted and I got to experience what life was like high on opies without diamond-grade stool and the itchies. I used to get really constipated when I started doing pod tea daily, but over time my body has become used to the opiates. I don't get constipated anymore, but the downside is without them I have to eat Immodium like candy just to have a normal bowel movement. But it's not just the Vicodin, all opiates constipate you.

except for a handfull of times when i took H while on bupe and was almost ready to start digging with a spoon, i enjoy the usual hardening effects opiates give me. i take a solid shit once a day, and only have to wipe once, with a checker of course, and thats it. i have to say tho, sometimes i have been worried about the status of my rectum and other down there parts. some shit is painfull.

I take opiates as well, am PM, IMO Miralax as others posted; works great for me. I too get constipated on occasion and the Miralax is very easy on your stomach, gets the work done!!! LOL!

miralax in the morning, miralax in the evening, miralax at supper time, when miralax is over the counter, you can slide it out anytime....
and frosted shredded de-shitpacking mini wheats help too.. have a bowl daily for a week before you get right on the miralax..

otherwise D-BoyJake has a sure fire method.. as long as you're drinking enough water that is..
