I have restless legs syndrom too and i find taking a moderate dose of a benzo and an opiate works so frickin good, plus it makes u feel great all the way around. its a perfect combo for rls . Thats a hard one if u cannot tolerate the combo of benzos and opiates i guess you will have to go through trying stuff like requip. heres something i found online i thought might interest you...

"The class of drugs known as dopaminergic agents are normally the first choice for RLS. These drugs are approved mainly to treat Parkinson's disease; they alter the activity of dopamine, a chemical that carries messages in the central nervous system. However, ropinorole (brand name Requip) has also been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for moderate to severe RLS. Other dopaminergic drugs that may be given, although the Food and Drug Administration has not approved them for use in RLS, include levodopa plus carbidopa (Sinemet), pergolide (Permax), and pramipexole (Mirapex). Side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. Augmentation, in which symptoms appear earlier in the day, is a problem with long-term use of these drugs. The solution to this problem is usually switching to another drug."

Hope it helps even just a little =)

It's always good to find something to take the edge off when your kickin' benzos. I wanted to try Requip myself the last time I kicked em' but I couldn't find any.

I'm not doing benzos now, and I got it all out of my system, so I can actually sleep like a normal person again. But It's good to know there's another something out there that'll help because I'm sure I'll be back on em' again and riding the benzo withdrawal roller-coaster some day.

Thanks for the experience report.

I asked this same question a while back, not sepcifically about Requip but about this class of Parkinsons' drugs. I suspected they may help the hee bee gee bees and RLS during opiate w/d because the the action they have on dopamine. I'm glad to hear that someone has tried them and they do help. I wonder if Carbi-dopa/Leva-dopa would be of any help.

My mom was recently hospitalized and they took her off all her meds in the hospital. (100 mg of Oxycontin, plus Oxycodone for breakthrough pain, Neurontin, Effexor and a bunch of diabetic/blood pressure drugs) I've never been so angry in my life. Her doctor was a FUCK! He put her on Fentanyl patches (the smallest ones possible) for her pain. It was really a complete fuck-up. Of course she starts detoxing and he diagnosis her with RLS. WTF??? (After 5 days she was finally put back on all her meds. The hospital claimed it was a communication error. Despite the fact that my mom was begging them to call her doctor...)

ANYWAY... long story short. She came home with a script for Requip, which was cool because I have periodic limb disorder (basically RLS for the whole body) and I was happy to try it out. I haven't had to use it for detoxing, thank god, but boy do I sleep well now. I have terrible insomnia as well and now I'm sleeping like a baby.

i also have carbidopa/levidopa and it helps a little but nothing to write home about imo. i was a kidney failure patient on dialysis for two years and some dialysis patients get RLS SOO bad so i tried basically all of the rls drugs, but finally just had to go with the opi/benzo combo, its like thats the only thing that works for everything. haha

can't comment on the requip but i had some RLS after going on a fentanyl binge a little while back. got to a point where i shot up a whole 16mg patch in one day. lets just say i suffered some heavy amnesia and think i might of almost OD'd. apparently, and i have a hard time believing it, 1mg is equal to 100mg of IM morphine, which is probably the same as IV.

so after that i told myself no more as i felt i was losing control and might end up dead. so i spent a night uncontrollably kicking my legs like a fricken soccer player... i swear i was kicking so hard at times i thought my knees might break. the next day i woke up, called the weedman, and was cured instantly of the RLS symptoms. for me, nothing beats a good heavy indica strain when i need some physical relief. i swear it signifigantly lowers the anxiety and the "i want to jump out of my skin" feelings, which for me, are the worst part.

Seconded Johnny-5.

Indica is a terrific analgesic. It gets rid of my migraines almost instantly, unfortunately, they always come back within an hour. But it buys me the time for pills or other things to kick in.

Consumed.

mirapex is way way better than requip
