View Full Version : Hard Lump in/around vein?

Hello all~

I have already posted once about my vein-seeking issue- I have a very hard time finding good spots to inject besides the crook of my elbow. As such, I use this spot alternating arms almost every time I shoot.
Now I have this hard lump right above the inside of one of my elbows. It's been there for about 4 days now and it's not painful or getting bigger- but it's not getting smaller/better either.
Any idea what this could be?
I'd do more digging around looking for other spots but I am trying to hide these marks, plus I can depend on hitting in those spots and not wasting anything.

Missed shot? damage from using the same place too long?

Would a missed shot cause something to last 4 days though? Also, I've only been shooting for a couple weeks so far, so there can't be any long-term damage yet.
I'm not trying to argue- it's just that I thought of these things but neither one seems to explain it, IMO.
Thanks for the reply, too.

I would think missed shot, obviously, but maybe you hit a pocket in a muscle and caused some sort of abcess. Maybe a health professional could direct us in the right direction. A missed subcutaneous shot tends to mount up to a large hard bump. I've seen some last a couple days at most, but 4 days IS a long time and is causing me to rethink my first thoughts. Ill research and see if i cant get back to you unless someone can provide a more experienced insight.

Definitely sounds like a bad skinpop, but yeah... 4 days?? I'd be thinking about a Dr. visit if it lasts much longer...

If you are using a dull rig or large gauge needle scar tissue can develop quite quickly. Just a guess but it could be a semi missed shot causing a small abscess.

I had one not to long ago, what I did was just shoot up higher on the arm than the lump, eventually the lump went down, took about a week. I just didn't think anything of it though because I'm used to these things. try to use newer rigs and find a good spot to hit, maybe try using shorter pins on your rigs.

That's scar tissue from shooting in the same place over and over. A lump develops rather quickly when you do this. Especially when using a dull pin. (And with insulin pins, a pin dulls after the first shot for sure).

sounds like a miss to me---yeah 4days aint shit- iv'e had em last for a couple months maybe longer. but they did go away. body has alot of good veins besides the pitstop--pratice makes perfect, you won't be able to hit anywhere eles and feel comfortable about it unless u doit. good luck--Rock--

My bad. I thought I read "4 weeks" the first time..... I still think it's scar tissue from dull pins. Usually a missed shot of anything that swells has some sort of pain.

I once missed a shot in my hand, and it left a very hard lump about the size of 2 BB's. I could push it and it would move slightly under my skin. It stayed at least 3 or 4 months. Very weird, nothing like that had happened before.

Also, when I miss crack shots with vinegar, it leaves horrible, painful, hard lumps for a week or two at least. But that's not really relevant, I guess.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, thanks, and I'll try hunting around more and more for spots. It's just hard when you're trying to hide them, ya know?

Thanks again everybody
