and I'll never go back to chain.

The pharmacist was SO nice, he's an older Indian guy. He didn't question any of my medications and we talked to each other like friends, no tension whatsoever despite the fact I was filling narcotics. At chains I feel like I'm under scrutiny constantly.

He also went out of his way to get me both dosages (10 patches 50 mcg/h and 10 patches 12.5 mcg/h) in anything but mylan brand. He had 5 watson 50s in stock and gave me those and ordered the rest which I picked up the next day. The rest were 5 50s in sandoz, and 10 12.5s in sandoz.

I feel like I'm treated with respect at this place, in stark contrast to rite aid, walgreens, etc.

Every one of you patients on opiates here should go to mom n' pop pharmacies! It makes a world of difference :)

Because they appreciate The business

Good call on your part

Support the little guy's

They generally are non invasive

They mind their own and are happy to see you

Pleased that you found a good one

Stick with them and they will help you all they can

I mean I have one(mom and pop)

That will open the store for off hour fill's

Such as E.R. stuff

Develop the relationship ...Not to use him/her

Just to insure you get what you need when you need it

The little guy show's appreciation ........espicially (sp)

For high dollar script's such as the fent ........stick with him/her

You also have the pleasure of knowing that CVS,Walgreen's ETC.benefit zero from you

Mom and Pops are the way to go. I will never go back to a big chain. My local hometown pharmacy is owned and operated by a guy about the same age as me. (late 20's to early 30's) He has never treated me like a junky. He always will go above and beyond to take care of me. He even goes to the point of breaking, I mean bending, the laws for me. Hell, the big chains won't even order a med for me. Calling them a chain is a very good call. When you go to a chain, it's like being chained down and held back.

This is an awesome tidbit! For years I've been filling at the chains and I've always been very paranoid of their involvement. Hearing stories of those larger stores taking it upon themselves to get involved in your pain management care, sharing that they believe the dosage may be wrong. I don't understand completely why they work this way, and why they're less relaxed, but I suppose it comes down to the simple fact the smaller stores simply cannot be bothered, and the larger chains hire "different type" of people.

With that said, I'm going to be investigating new, smaller chains. They deserve more support. I don't like the idea of a pharmacy actively using the power they have to start stepping on my toes trying to "care" for me when they don't know anything directly connected to me, aside from what I take and why I take it.

Since I'm not a CP and don't have any quacks on hand I don't regularly fill any narcfull scripts other than suboxone but I imagine that mom and pop stores are more expensive.
Is it worth the extra cost to you? I don't know how much more it is if any but if it is I wonder what the value of not being treated like a shoplifter when your actually a paying customer is?

I really don't think the price was any different. In fact, IIRC, the one I go to is cheaper than the local chains. Even if he was more expensive, it would be well worth not being treated like a junky off the street.

It sounds like we use the same pharmacy!!!!! My pharmacist is an older indian guy too...very sweet, calls me by my first name. I'm a cp patient on Actiq...he always has it in stock for me(I could not get it at the bigger chains) and never bats an eye at the 120 that come my way every month!!! I used to get the third degree filling Norco's and Codeine at CVS!

the mom and pop pharmacy's here are always cheaper. One reason I have always stuck to mine. they charge less then 50 cents a pill for my percs. and my zannie bars are the same way. walgreens riteaid, walmart, giant, all them are soooo expensive. Luckily they just opened another mom and pop...and as the original poster said, it was an indian guy, very sweet...talked to me like he had known me for years...and get this...he called around to find the cheapest price on the script and thats what he gave it to me for. one of them was ambien 10mg tabs...everywhere else charges 80 for generic besides drug city (they charge 20) He gave it to me for 20. If that ain't enough to bring back business I dunno what is. I will for now on go there. I have 2 pharmacy's I use, but now switched to using him and the other one. cant take my scripts out of the other one because they bend the rules for me, and I have to show my appreciation. ;)

The local mom & pop here, the employees are nice, but the pharmacist is a fucking douchebag!! He yelled @ me, 'I'm not filling that script! It's not the right type for CII's!!' when I just ASKED what it should look like, fuck him!

Though he is the new RPH, the old one was awesome I've heard, doing things like other people have mentioned for all his customers.

Now, I do use a small chain, in a TX grocery store. Though the RPH is nice as hell, showed me the problem w/ that script, plus is a friend of my doc, so I couldn't scam him even if I wanted to. He's very compassionate, answers questions, and during those damn consults for narcotics, always asks "You know what to do with these right? Okay, have a nice day!" that's it. On the flip side, the pharm techs and other employees are assholes... give or take I guess.

EDIT: Though I do get my benzo's for free from the local mom & pop, so I can't boycott them all together...

Excellent post, for a tidbit of great information. I have been using the same mom and pop's drugstore for fifteen years and they have always treated me with the upmost respect, i always joke around with them that i am there best customer and they are very sensitive and supportive of my needs. i wouldn't go to rite aid or cvs for anything but shampoo.

In general I agree with the idea of supporting local businesses.
But not all of the chain pharmacies are bad. IMO the pharmacist is the most important factor.

W*lgreens was the only pharmacy who could fill my Seconal script, and it took much effort on their part to get the drug.
All of the mom&pops looked at the script and said there was no way they could get the drug.

There are 3 main pharmaceutical distributors in the US; McKesson, Cardinal, and Bergen.
The mom&pops didn't have the clout with them. Like most businesses, the distributors want to keep their biggest clients happy first.

im so sad cause my mom and pop just changed into a rite aid. the owner died a few months back, and the family sold off the store. That place was a land mark. Its been around longer then me. they had products that you couldnt find anywere. old school shit. everyone was Norm walkin through the door. and they would special order meds too. and give you what they had if they didnt have enough to fill, and let you come back to get the rest (big chains dont usually do that). I was going so long they even special ordered the brands i wanted, and started ordering OC specially for me, and injectables when i started torodol (they didnt carry either med before hand).

the only good thing is that even though it is a rite aid, the staff is the same. but, the prices went up. before they were dirt cheep.
