can you use sunnyside boiled mineral oil instead of acetone...is it the same ting...anything else you can use besides acetone? i have no clue how easy it can be made do i have to go to the store now? lol i have no acetone if there isnt anything else i can use....just givin it a try....gotta try everythign once..

This really may not be the best idea. Chloroform can easily kill you or someone else, whether it's inhaling the fumed or getting blown-up/burned if it catches fire. Oh, and acetone and mineral oil are not even close to the same thing.

Yeah, sorry for bringing this message up from the dead but I just had to reply when they asked if they could substitute oil for acetone.

I mean acetone is fairly easy to get a hold of, CHCl3 isnt that hard either. I'm assuming they just want to do some sort of extraction.

I'm not sure of the mechanism of bleach and acetone to make chloroform, if I get bored i'll look it up. I remember one reaction that will give you CHCl3 by chlorinating a carbon then kicking it off to gain a proton, if anyone can shed light on that reaction I would appreciate it since its bothering me not remembering it.

You would need to distill it if you made it too. Which means you can go to the hardware store, distill their acetone and it will be perfect for use.

You'd be better off just buying it at a chemical supply place. It's pretty easy to get if you look around a bit. Also some toxic shit comes off it when you synth it yourself, wouldn't recommend it.
