Lets all jump the border to Canada :]
Definetly a ray of hope! We are moving the right direction, hopefully things keep up! Even in w/d as I am at the moment, this brings a smile to my face! Eyes are being opened, someone cares!
We would probably alot closer if the US wasn't so strong for prohibition.

They're doing the heroin maintenance trials out there as well and working on getting slow release oral morphine and prescription narcotics available for addicts. I suspect this is their way of cleaning things up before the 2010 Olympics hit and get the addicts off the street. I hope all that new stuff they're doing trickles back towards Ontario.

YES, I was just listening about this on the CBC (i think that what its called), Their program AS IT HAPPENS, very cool rpogram you Canandians. It seems this was quite the surprise ruling from a rather conservative judge. Basically allows this program to stay open indefinetely without federal intervention. Good for a progress country,my friends to the north!

Ummm sorry about this guys, but I guess I should have told you the bad news as well. The naomi trial(H and dialudid rxing) is being closed down and the addicts on it are being sent back to the street.
5 addicts are taking this to court, but to be honest they don't have much chance in the present climate.

a few things in that article stuck out for me.
this ruling seems to open up the possibility of other placces. insite doesn't even need the government's permission anymore, so why would any other place that does the same things?
these words: Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users had a real affect on me. i really wish we were better at organizing ourselves here.

This is true, but even more it implies that human rights come before drug control. This ruling really does open a can of worms.

Yep, the NAOMI trials were just that, trials, doesn't last forever and they study the effects. There have been talks of making NAOMI becoming permanent in the future and there is another plan, Chronic Addiction Substitution Treatment Trial or CAST and think this one will take off before the Olympics as that is there driving force, sadly to clean up the streets. They don't give a fuck about addicts just how Vancouver will be perceived at the Olympics. http://www.castvancouver.org/proposal.html

I believe CAST is oral rxs only and it qualifies success as eventual abstinence.
Did you see the nnewspaper article about the end of NAOMI.It included an interview with a guy called "Jazzman?"

Yep CAST is only oral I think as well, but still better than nothing. Could get all the dilaudid and oxy you need. People would shoot the pills up anyway would only make sense to give them and IV alternative. Never saw the interview, what did the guy say?

That's the problem with these things. When I wasn't doing so good I asked the doc hook me up on the trial but just said, "you'll be back to where you started when it's over". They should make this a permanent form of treatment.
