I knew about the bans on smoking in public places, but banning the sale of tobacco? A few different cities and states have bills up right now to ban tobacco sales in pharmacies, and some chains have stopped selling it voluntarily. I have to say it's seeming more and more like a slippery slope...

Yeh, there's a point where it becomes a black market item.
This has already happened to some extent, and once that has happened the laws have already gone too far.
And further legislation is just stupid and ridiculous.

When I lived in NYC, brand names cigarettes were about 8.50 a pack (and that was several years ago, I'm sure they've went up since then.) People were smuggling them in from out of state.
Somehow this situation reminds me of the Nazi anti-tobacco campaign.

Damn the man anyway!lol, i haven't heard anything about banning tobacco but i do know that the prices of cigarrettes are going up on June 3rd, which would make cigarrette smoking almost ten dollars a pack...
Good, make it easier for me to quit, hate this dirty habit.
They should make tobbacco illegal and opaites legal, I have a funny feeling health care costs will go down, not to mention lung cancers.

Here in CT they are trying to pass a law that you can not smoke in your OWN car if a child is in it.
Which is understandable, but most of us OPEN the window if they are smoking with a child in the car.
I just think this shit is going too far. Can't smoke in a park, on a baseball field, outside a mall...people look at you like you are shootin' dope when you are in a designated smoking area having a puff. JEEZ
I wish i could quit. It IS a nasty habit, i ve tried CHANTIX and had massive suicidal mood swings, which i guess is a side effect that NO ONE told me about til it happened. the patch, gum...i guess it boils down to me wanting to quit, as with everything else, if you aren't ready you ain't gonna quit
So now we'll have to go to the streets for cigs too!! Them drug dealers are makin' enough money.
They outta outlaw alcohol too while their at it, i've seen much devastation from THAT drug.
Legalize ALL drugs and then there would be so much less problems with robbery etc.
lol, i haven't heard anything about banning tobacco but i do know that the prices of cigarrettes are going up on June 3rd, which would make cigarrette smoking almost ten dollars a pack...
WHAT???? all over the U.S. or just where you are??? They are already close to $5. for the brand i smoke, my hubbys brand NEWPORt is closer to $6. already
WOW, i guess i WILL be trying to quit again then.

Personally, I'd enjoy this ban (wouldn't like the man doing it though, too much control over what I can put into my body) - but smoking (even second hand) if I'm exposed to it every day, even moderately will kill me in under 2 years according to a doc...
now it's the pollution I worry about.

First of all, its my body & I'll do what I want to...do what I want to...
Anyway, a few comments...smokes in AZ are around $7 a pack, I get a "2 Pack Special" for $13.39. Walgreens is actually cheaper than the convenience store where I usually buy my smokes AND Walgreens is fighting the no selling smokes in pharmacies bullshit...which is cool of them.
Also, that law that they're trying to pass about smoking with children in the car isn't just there, its being discussed in AZ too. I think its something like being fined for smoking with a child under age 10 in the car with you. (I do understand that one.)
I consider myself a considerate smoker. If a non-smoker is going to ride with me somewhere, I ask if they mind if I smoke (in MY own car) and if they mind...I don't smoke. I don't smoke close to a non-smoker unless they're cool with it.
Again, its MY body & I'll put whatever I want into it. Tobacco, drugs, alcohol, penises, whatever... the government has NO right to regulate what I put in my own damn body!

Second hand smoke is a myth!! IT ALL PART OF THE CONSPIRACY!!!
TEL ME SOMETHING - if smoking cause cancer why is it that only 13% of people with cancers are smokers. MMMM
And NO smoking will never be banned wayyyyy to much tax money in it!!!
I ask before I smoke and when they make that face like OH GOD a smoker, I ask if YOU mind if I fart, pass gas , that's ok. YOU mean you rather inhale air from my asshole.:D

Gold~ I agree with you... take my grandmother, for example. She passed away at 101 years old. She had breast cancer. NEVER smoked, not one cigarette. Never drank alcohol except for the ONE sip of Dom she had for a toast at her 100th birthday party. No one in her family ever had breast cancer. No one.
I seriously think some people are just predispositioned to get cancer... whether you smoke, drink or whatever... it wouldn't matter.
I also had an uncle (other side of the family) that died of melanoma (skin cancer) and he smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years... I've never been able to find a connection between smoking and skin cancer....
It is interesting stuff.

In Ontario you can't sell cigarettes in your store if you also have a pharmacy. It's retarded.
Lets just clear up something....Second hand smoke is VERY REAL, it is definetly not a myth. PEROID.

Second hand smoke is real, just not nearly as dangerous as people think. It's only going to effect you if you work/live in an environment that has a lot of it. Otherwise it's a lot better than car exhaust.

PROVE IT!!!!!
SHOW MY SEVERAL DOUBLE BLIND PLACEBO CONTROLLED STUDIES THAT LAST OVER A SEVERAL YEAR PERIOD that prove. It call the conditioning on the American mind (i guess CAN. too). See Before second hand smoke was invented, when I started smoking. It was only yourself you where "harming" . THEN the powers that be invented second hand smoke and all the sudden my smoking effected EVERYONE. NOW we are see the results of all this BS second smoke. CARS put out much more deadly toxic shit in our precious air. ALL second hand smoke studies use correlative propaganda. And it go beyond smoking, that was the model for the making of how to control how we think and what we can be condition to accept. chip. chip. chip AWAY OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES.
NATE- do you mind if I fart?
My grandmother died because my grandfather smoked for 50+ years while they were together. She was diagnosed with lung cancer, and her lungs looked like that of a smoker. She died as a result of second hand smoke, really harmless eh?
Besides that, if you are inhaling the smoke from a lit cigarette the same thing is happening to your lungs as if you were smoking it yourself.
What the fuck do you have no common sense. How about you prove that second hand smoke does nothing...
Wow dude, I can't believe someone would argue this....i think you should just stop now, because I know i am not the only one who has lost a loved one to second hand smoke. I am not arguing that the propaganda has been blown way out of preportion, but to argue second hand smoke i harmless, that is completely assinine.
Time for a smoke.

Nate -NOT ARGUING ANYTHING, just stating facts, many free thinker know the same thing. Sorry for the loss of your grandmother.
My mother died of cancer and leukemia. never drink , never smoke, eat right . physical active etc. again smokers account for a very small % of cancer victims. I could say much more about your story and the problems with using such as some kind of proof, but I don't want to hurt your feeling in regards to the passing o f a loved one.
I smell like shit cause of farting and smoke a pack of Newport's, need Marlboro.
Thanks, I will leave it at that, but I really think you need to do some research on the subject. For everyone else...second hand smoke is VERY real, but just like all government propaganda, they blow it out of preportion.
But just to clarify, the damage/lung cancer my grandmother had was caused by the second hand smoke. Peroid.

wow.. we're a bunch of junkies arguing over second hand smoke... I know there's a joke there.. but my brain can't find it.
kinda like a good friend of mine who is currently on a year long meth run but only eats organic food cause he doesn't wanna ingest pesticides. to each their own I guess
I know I knew it was getting to be a really really slippery when they passed a law here in vegas of all places that you can't even smoke in certain parts of the casinos and you can't smoke in restraunts anymore. Im not a smoker, unless I'm drinking.. but it still pisses me off when they pass these laws. I think the government is too involved in what I can and cant put in my body.
But just to clarify, the damage/lung cancer my grandmother had was caused by the second hand smoke. Peroid.
Any way to prove this absolutely? It could've been coincidental. How did your grandfather die? \

Hmm well I wonder where all the tar came from? Obviously I can't be certain, but the woman never smoked anything in her life. Maybe its possible for massive amounts of tar to just appear in an otherwise healthy persons lungs?
He died of a heart attack, during his final years he was hooked up to oxygen for his years of smoking.
Anyways, I know I can't be 100% sure, but the point is, second hand smoke is not harmless.

this is kinda off topic.. but I have to ask.. did your grandfather smoke while he was on oxygen? I know that sounds dumb, but my aunt was really onery and used to argue that it wasn't flammable.. it just said that on the tank to trick her into not smoking. So she'd have a cigarette hanging out of her mouth with her nose plug in. She was an 85 year old little sicilian lady, onery as hell.
No he didn't, but oxygen is very flamable.

I know oxygen is flammable.. I just thought it was funny that she was that onery. I was also trying to lighten the thread up a bit

there is such a thing as second hand smoke, but it is nowhere near as bad for you as they say. there have been many studies on it, and the one that said it was bad for you (apparently it was a study that was not done right, and for all statistical purposes should be ignored) is the one that they hype.
i dont think tobacco should be illegal. i dont think anything that grows out of the ground should be, no one has the right to outlaw things that were here before we were.

I've never smoked in my life, yet I've got COPD and emphysema and semi-black lungs thanks to my mom going through 3+ packs a day with me right there for my entire life...
can't tell me it's a myth...I've got medical proof it's real... plus I lived on an island, so there was very little air pollution

Second hand smoke is bad, but you have to live with someone who smokes a lot or work in a smoky place like a bar or bingo hall to really have it hurt you. Some people are predisposed to getting cancer and others are not. Problem is you don't really know which you are until it's too late. Also, oxygen by itself is not flammable, but it does feed a fire. I would hate to be smoking while on o2 and have that mask dealie start burning like crazy while strapped to my face.
