They might actually not ALL be opiophilms - but most are ... I won't add in the exceptional genre of it's own: the Cheech and Chong movies - those guys broke through boundaries and made it okay to laugh at being stoned stupid, or laugh while being stoned stupid with friends. A handful of these are just great "addiction" movies that deal with the subject in a way that you can really feel the pain of the main characters, and even the minor characters, with this list of movies, almost everyone you know has played the roll of someone in one of them ... they are intense and gripping and very worth watching. Worth watching completely sober, by the way, IMHO.
Maria, Full of Grace
The Basketball Diaries
Drugstore Cowboy
Trainspotting
Leaving Las Vegas
When a Man Loves A Woman
Twenty Eight Days
Less than Zero
The Thin Man Series (where alcoholism is okay, in the 1940's - interesting cultural perspective and a fun series of flicks!)
Down and Out in Las Vegas (this one made me feel too drug sick -- and I was SOBER -- to even be able to finish watching it, but just knowing that it could do that shows the power the movie holds over the viewer (this viewer, at least).
I could think of a lot more, if I thought long and hard enough, but I'm off to work. Those are all MUST SEE movies though, and if you haven't watched the director's cut of "Maria Full of Grace" you missed out on a real treat, go back and watch the movie again, as the director explains how the movie came to be what it is, and who the people really are (the "packer" is of particular interest, but so are many of the mini - stories behind the scenes in the directors version of the movie - it is included in the DVD.
Anyone who hasn't seen these, with the exception of the last one, which I just couldn't handle, is in for a real treat.
And then there are movies like Koyaanisquatsi that are made to be viewed in a very relaxed, and open minded state ... there are quite a few of those, but alas, I must go, so it is another topic for another day .....
enjoy ....  :D
