I just had my monthly PM visit today and complained again about the uselessness  of hydro as a BT med, and that I've been taking it since '06. He preached about how strong the Opana ER (10mg) is that I'm taking and that I shouldn't really need a BT med, but relented and wrote me for 5mg Opana IR prn :D, but no more than 3 a day. I was taking up to 6/8 of the hydro just to get a little relief. The pharmacist said that the Opana was much more powerful than the hydro.

Has anyone had experience with the IR Opana? I'm also taking Zanaflex at night as needed. Thanks.

BTW, I'm new, so if I posted incorrectly please let me know, I'm sure someone will!:p

Opana is why needles were invented. Not too hot orally though. Lasts longer than Dilaudid. That's all I know.

The IR's are pretty damn good. Recreation aside, I think I have to rate Opana right up there with the best of narcotic analgesics. Of course, the only way to get any recreation out of them is to either rail the IR/ER's or shoot the IR's. I don't shoot, so I've railed them. The BA goes up considerably that way. I heard that its around 40%. Everyone is different, but it gives me more of an Oxycodone feel when railed. I get the 10mg IR's so I can't speak too much about the 5's, but the 10's have quite a bit of filler in them. They also make my nose run... which sucks cause it being a pink pill, it looks like my damn nose is bleeding when its not. When this happens though, I just rail a little of the ER and that fixes it.

Have fun and be careful. If you've not ever railed them before, you might think about it first and use it sparingly. Doing so will basically cut your monthly supply by at least a third if you do it often and get used to it. And, I also think your doc is blowing smoke about the 10mg ER's being so strong. Its equivalent to about 30mg of Oxy. To some it would be, but for a regular user, I doubt it. I take 3 40's a day and 5 IR's as needed.

I moved your thread to the pharmaceuticals forum.

I don't have any experience w/ Opana (or any form of oxymorphone), so I can't really help you out.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I agree that the 10mg ER's are not as strong as he's making them out to be, they've never lasted more than 6 hours and even then they weren't 100% effective. He also has me taking another MRI this time of the SI joint to see what is causing all the pain, I hope they find something this time, cause if not then I might get cut off :(, but I do know that there is something definitely pinching, pushing or poking on a nerve somewhere. Thanks again for the replies.:)

how would oxymorphone compare to oxycodone (insufflated), is it a considerably different high?

it's a different high, sedating, not speedy...but I love it.

Snort them if you don't IV 'em... just don't waste them orally.
