I noticed theres not much said about Meperidine(Demerol) on this board so I thought Id start a new thread and see what everyone thought about it. I was in ahigh speed accident a little over a year ago where I broke 5 ribe in 9 different places, my sternum in 2 places and a 3 inch hip dislocation among other injuries. Ever since I have been trying various analgesics in an attempt to "Take the pain away". I am a pharmacist so I sort of have access to just about everything narcotic including Demerol hcl at 100mg/ml. This is by far the most superior pain medication for my chosen route of administration. Although its slightly addictive to say the least, Demerol is a fantastic analgesic and completely eliminates my chronic pain at 50mg (.5cc) Q 4-6 H PRN (every 4-6 hours as needed for pain). I've been using Demerol for relief for about 6months at no more than 200mg a day and have not devloped a tollerance or dependance. I think it is far superior to Oxycodone even the injectable
hcl solution available at 20mg/ml or hydromorphone powder. What do you think? SB>

I was given a few shots at the hospital. its was nice. I have read some comments in the book Junky by Burroughs that Demerol didnt really help with withdrawls for awhile. the chemical structure is in certian ways comparable to darvon, methadone, loperamide, at least this is what Ive read. I notice that morphine and codeine tend to enhance certian skills and behaviors that other synthetic opioids can actually have negative effect upon. this is a well studied occurrence. I am not putting a nose up to demerol. I wouldnt mind "running" into it again outside of the clinical zone (twisted ankles get in the way of euphoria). I can remember though wishing I would have just been given M. I they asked me about my pain a the hospital, and I told them how much pain I was in, they noticed my natural tolerance to opiates. they said I was totally animated, and that most people get leveled. sleepy. they did give me a little more....I got sick from taking the norco for a week, when I quit. I had just kicked methadone and was clean when I got injured, cept for chipping every once in a while. I was getting shit faced drunk, and twisted my ankle skateboarding. so then I am thrust onto merepidine and norco, and the kick was mild, but even when it is mild it is annoying, and the second night I would have done H for sure to get rid of the feeling. but I didnt..... I just havint seen much merepidine around, it must be rarely prescribed, or prescribed to a certian population or area???

One of my former Doc's were addicted to Demerol. He use to write New York triplicate RX's for the stuff and used my name and my mother's name as the patient. I read that there is a metabolite that accumulates in the body that can be toxic. Surprised that my former Doc survived. Plus, I'm surprised that my Doc never got caught since NY tracks all Schedule II Rx's. He's retired now, a millionaire and living in Florida. He surrendered his DEA license so I hope he quite the stuff and is enjoying retirement.

ive had demerol many, many, times....thru IM & IV for migraines for kidney stones. ive had up to 200 mg IM before when i had a kidney stone AND a migraine on top of it. docs dont use it much anymore, they prefer dilaudid over it for the simple reason it has that toxit metabolite....

Personal taste. I would track right by a case of Demerol for morphine, Fentanyl, Dilaudid or Numorphan. A pharmacist should have access to all those goodies. Anesthesialogists (sp) get strung on Fentanyl. Childbirth is assisted with Fentanyl right in the old spine. Demerol is old school. Why mess with spider monkeys when you can support King Kong on your shoulders? Step up

Personally, the last time I had any was for a migriane @ the ER.. thus probably being a small dose. Other than that, when I first started using opiates, my friends sister got the 100mg pills alot, I remember them being pretty good, nothing like hydromorphone, but then again, I did not have the same route of admin.. I was just eating the Demerol. Anyway, haven't heard much about it for awhile, and I see posts of people saying there is a toxin in it, it is a little "old school" but it is strong, and I know that liquid is fukin nice.
wow- just noticed how old this thread is....

My brother in law found an old vial
of demerol in a doctor's bag at an old house
he was painting years ago.He was scared to mess with it
and gave it to me.
I still have a memory of walking out the back door
to the grill one sunny summer day.
A magical perfect moment kind of BBQ.

persolly i have suffered from chronic pain for over 5 years the last year being the worst with many hospital visits and i always ask for demerol it does't have too much of a euphuric effect or "high" but it is the only thing that will take my pain away when i tell most docs it works for me for me and they don't have a problem giveing it too me because of my severe pain is well documented in MRI reports
