My friends mother, now eighty years old and has leucemia, got cut off from her 5mg a day hydrocodone habit.
The doctor claimed she was an addict.
Another friend of mine recovering from a serious injury also got cut off from his 5mg a day hydrocodone prescription for the same reason. Doctor claimed he was addicted. This doctor at least had the decency to send him to a pain clinic, the caveat being with a note that he was addicted to Hydrocodone. So at the pain management clinic the new doctor, prescribes 90 x 15mg Morphine. My friend didn't like the effects of the Morphine and so the doctor then prescribed 60 x 5mg Methadone. Which my friend also could not tolerate.
All he wanted was the Hydrocodone, because it worked best for his pain. But they won't give it to him because of the note that he is addicted to Hydrocodone.
Both of these stories are true, took place in the last couple months here in California. Is this part of a general trend to crack down on Hydrocodone or is this just an isolated case of *total insanity* here in these parts?

That is so ridiculous. It really upsets me when i hear stuff like that. And come on an 80 year old... first off, that's CRUEL, secondly... who cares if she is an addict she's 80 LOL. 5mgs of Hydrocodone really isn't an addiction, it's more like maintenence, that's one pill a day.. Stupid Doctor.

Welcome to the drug war.
These cases aren't rare-just standard operating practice.
As I keep saying.......time to move to Micronesia.

That is insane! They think they are gonna save her from hydrocodone addiction by giving her stronger meds like morphine and methadone?!?!? Might be better for the old liver, but c'mon 5/500 mg a day! Thats minuscule...
Ya, these disturbing trends enrage me too. Drug war, argh!
On a side note, its good to see ya surfrat! I been wondering how ya been, where ya been at?

These people must not be that addicted if they are only taking 5mg a day. There tolerance obviously has not gone up, so why should the docs care. 5mgs might get rid of a very slight head ache for me, so if it works for these people experiencing bad pain then I am happy for them and say keep giving them there measly 5mg a day hydrocodone. Prescibing Methadone instead is just asinine. Methadone is way more addictive than Hydrocodone and much more dangerous. I even heard that Methadone is more addicted than even Heroin and more dangerous than Heroin. I heard that people can die quiting Methadone cold turkey. Stupid people make me angery.

God WTF! This shit pisses me off.. Especially because I too have gone through SO MUCH BULLSHIT, suffering in severe pain for years, before finding a legal doc to give me legit scripts that actually hold me over! Though I've always been able to get Lortabs n Percs.. even when I was underage. That is fucking stupid BS though, you would not believe some the stories I've heard about this kinda bullshit man.
I swear chronic pain is the most under-medicated condition in America!
I have had to go through so much pain and suffering because of stupid ass docs and shit. and I know WAY too many ppl who were forced to resort to obtaining opioids for their legit pain(even having MRIs, files from various docs, PT's, ect proofing said pain) illicitly. Which lots of times does in fact lead to the needle so that they're able to get more releif for their buck because the shit cost so much. and when you're needing 150mg roxi three times a day with fent and/or m'done you're going to be spending thousands just like that. I know many lives that could have been saved if a doc would have took the patients in and treated them like real ppl and actually cared about helping their pain like a PAIN CLINIC is fucking there for! Funny that they're their to help pain, when they cause more pain and hurt more patients than the few they truly help.. I've seen way too many fellow CP sufferers turn into street junkies barely scraping by thanks to this BS and it really gets to me as I've been there myself for a few years.
but yeah man that is such bullshit I feel for them! I wish their were a way to make pain clinic docs able to feel the exact pain some of us chronic pain patients do for like 6mos at least(which isn't NOTHING for most of us whose been hurting most of our lives) before being able to prescribe CII narcotic opioids. Also the oh so wonderful DEA needs to worry about real drug problems, not keeping docs from giving out CII's that are actually NEEDED!
sorry but I just gotsta talking(yeah I'm opiated) and this shit just gets to me..
